aaand we’re back to hiking and photography and connecting with nature! who knew i needed this as badly as i did…

we spent the first half of the year hiking every few days… according to , we hiked 28 times between February and July! whew 😍 half of those hikes were in April as we trekked from Texas to NM to CO to Utah to AZ. all are excellent hiking states, and all are also full of snakes so my blood pressure was through the roof. BUT we were truly one with nature, and i’ve felt the lack of being “lost” in the woods a lot recently.

luckily, after wrapping up the invitational with being named the fastest dalmatian in the nation (!!!), we were able to switch gears and pop right over to a state park for some chill time. the waterfall was missing, as was any semblance of water in the river, but we still had a great time.

i didn’t have my camera set optimally for what i wanted to capture during this hike, so i had tons of out of focus, crappy shots, but i’m happy with this bunch! and that purple light from the sky is in camera, not an edit… idk maybe a gift from the skies since i missed the aurora the other night? 🥹

did we get a perfect shot of the 4 of us? NOPE. but that’s why we have silly boy Saturday™️!

these two spotties had a blast kicking’ up dirt and did not care about their times— seems like that was just a me problem 😅 and Kim and I had a blast getting to actually hang out for the first time. i’m bummed we don’t live closer!

Olaf reiterated that she is THE fastest Dal in America and got a big ol’ blue and green ribbon and some ice cream. don’t worry, patchy got an egg! lolll

and then they were both rewarded with a hike and we were rewarded with the absolute best hiking buddies who behaved even better than i could have imagined on their first trek together. constant self-check ins, staying in eyeshot, constant waiting when they got ahead of us, no zoomies or wrestling mid-hike (!), pulling off for other doggos, allowing us to take our silly pics and work on our camera skills… twas a good day.

now for some more fastcat and then back to TN!

we did it!! we’re moving on to the finals!!! 🏆

⏸️ pause: how exciting that we get to represent the very best breed for the entire country. i think i need to take a moment to actually let that soak in because even though this is old news at this point, i’m not sure i ever realized how big that is until this very moment 😅

⏪️ rewind: these four dogs ran their hearts out last year, and they finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th out of HUNDREDS of Dalmatians. they’re the fastest of the fast, and in case you forgot, Dalmatians in general are REALLY fast!!!

i’m 99% sure we’ve all been at the same event before… one of Denise’s events in Freehold last year, but we hadn’t all met until yesterday.

⏭️ for anyone who doesn’t know, that’s Sir Dutton on the left (from NC), then FastPatch, then Olaf the Great (NJ), and then Kylo the Speedster (from PA, I think?) on the right. and this is the first invitational that any of us have been to!

we all ran our best, and i’m stoked and honored that Patch and I get to move into the finals with our friends Kim and Olaf!

and our girl Meeko will be powering us forward in spirit. we hope we’ve made you proud, girlie 🥹

today’s a day off as they finish prelims, so we have a really fun adventure planned. stay tuned on that.

don’t slip up… i’m coming for that number one spot!

so like, we’re at the FastCat invitational, right? it’s just me and the boys. and we’re running, right? and we’re like vroom vroom zooooooooom. it was so fun. but thennn i finish running, and mom said we were all reallll slow for being top 5 Dalmatian doggos. but like, it’s cool. cuz i ran a 7.4 and since it was just us boys and they ran slow too (7.5 and 7.6), i was #1 🎉🎉🎉

i told mom we should leave while we’re ahead, but she made us stay there. some time later, i was napping in my car house, and she said “brb.” and then when she came back, i sniffed her real good— i should’ve known… she went to see Olaf. that b***h showed up and made us boys look DUMB. we thought maybe it was just a tough course today because it went uphill at the end, but Olaf ran a 6.97 like it was just any other course! 😲

so, anyway, we’re going back for more today.

probbbbably should’ve posted this a week and a half ago when he got this but ya boy passed the ol’ AKC temperament test and now gets to add an ✨ ATT ✨to the end of his fancy name!

i hesitated to sign up because it was the same day and the same location as FastCAT— like, not even a FastCAT field length away— AND his (our) fav humans (my siblings) were around, so there were all kinds of distractions present, but i guess that showed the evaluators just how much varying surfaces and textures and sounds don’t really mean much to this city boy unless there’s a moving plastic bag attached to them…? 🤷🏽‍♀️😅 “walk over the crate? yeah yeah sure, but what about that orange thing over there?”

confident, alert, friendly, loyal… yep yep yep! dignified? eh… not so much that day, but we’ll let that pass 😅

big thanks to the Owensboro Kennel Club in Kentucky who put on a VERY organized weekend of FastCAT and ATT tests! 🤘🏽

now that I finally have the photos from our speedway trial, allow me to re-introduce SillyBoySaturdays™️

let’s rewind to late July. it was the best of times, it was the worst of times LMAO 🤣

after the 5 or 6 private classes we had taken up until this point, patch understood the assignment, wasn’t afraid of the equipment, and followed my guidance through the obstacles.

on this special day, we went from 0 to 2 other dogs in the arena to 20 dogs in the arena, and patch decided to have a field day, doing whatever tf he wanted to do.

instead of running through hoops and tunnels, patchy wanted to show everyone how fast he is and how good he is at zoomies, and boy did he show them! 😆

did we Q? absolutely not. but did we have fun? hell yeah, we did!

happy belated world photography day / ’s bday, part ✌🏽! (did you know these days even existed btw? Aug 19th and Aug 25th, respectively. i just learned over the last week 🫢)

anyhow, this set takes us into portrait mode! but like, real portrait mode, as in, vertical capture as opposed to horizontal / landscape. but also not real portrait mode because all of this is captured with a wide angle lens 😋

a lot of these shots are from the day i purchased my camera. half of them actually! out and about in Colorado Springs. the other half are from Utah or Arizona.

there’s something so neat about seeing those giant red rocks everywhere. it’s so different from everything on the east coast— almost feels like you’re in a movie. or in prehistoric times. each formation is basically a wild character, full of personality and its own style.

did you notice the super animated tree in a couple of these btw? it looks like it’s running away from something and trying to keep up with patchy 🤭

oh hi there! happy national doggo day! and happy belated photographer’s day! and happy belated birthday to all of da national parks! and dammit, we still can’t post 20 photos to our carousel even after updating the app, which i have not manually done in at least 5 years, if not 8-10…!

i finally picked up a new faster-than-what-i-own camera a few months ago, so from Colorado Springs onwards, i put that baby to use! so here’s part one of a celebration to getting back in the game. some of my fav photos or moments or edits from the last few weeks of the road trip.

i prefer candids or capturing motion, so that’s mostly what you’ll see from me, but there’s no rhyme or reason to this set of 10.

i just went to a garage sale for dog stuff and got a large soft crate for shows/sports, a full set of 12 weave poles (!), 6-7 dog books (health/anatomy related stuff and breed encyclopedias 🤓), a cooling mat, a dalmatian and fire hydrant salt & pepper shaker, AND two used toys for Patch the Dalmatian… for $82 😎

say whaaaa?!

also i paid full price for this new hat at Dick’s yesterday— also unheard of bc i rarely spend full price on anything— and it’s already covered in Patch’s love 🥲

one full year of the nomad life 🚙

a year since we walked out of our building for the very last time. and a year since we challenged ourselves to truly surrender control over our day to day.

did you know you can travel through most of the country in under a year? or you can sit at your desk and stay home like i’ve done ever other year.

or— get this— if you set yourself up for it, you can 🖤 combine 🤍 both ❣️

those last few days at “home” (our neighbors place downstairs), we retraced our favorite steps. we did our park-to-park walk, hit the basketball court for off-leash time, and stopped to take in the nyc skyline views from our “castle” (a gazebo). i cried. for my past, present, and future. the city was my family and my safety blanket for 20 years, so leaving was bittersweet.

and then we stopped in “our section” on the way back to pick up as many tennis balls as we could hold— all gifts from our parks dept. bestie for Patchy’s last day since he wouldn’t be able to leave them out for him anymore.

and then we did it… we left a little after midnight that night, and it was the best decision. we’ve accomplished so much in the last year, and better yet, i’ve been more present in the last year than ever before! and all of that happened with my bestest friend on the planet 🌎

how i feel about the fact that the Olympics are finally officially here 🤪

anyone else a big Olympics head?? has anyone ever been to them?! what’s your fav sport to watch? mine’s track and field 🤩

the Olympics were always fun to watch, but the first ones i realllly remember being all-in on were the ‘96 games in Atlanta. we were lucky enough to get to attend those games, meet people from all over the world, exchange pins and tchotchkes with strangers, and just take it all in. there’s really nothing else like it.

there aren’t too many places that we stay multiple times when traveling, but this place is probably the exception because of placement. right along the highway makes it quick to access and means there’s gas stations right where you need ‘em. and most importantly ☝🏽 the price is always right here 🙏🏽

it’s been a full year.

a year since we’ve had a place of our own called home.

a year since we walked up and down all those stairs at least 3x a day.

a year since patchy’s crates got packed up and sent off to storage.

a year since i had all of my stuff accessible to me in the way i wanted it all organized, in the places i knew it all to be.

it’s been a year that feels like 6 months, maybe. at most. but a year that also feels like a lifetime ago.

a year of memories made EVERYWHERE. from upstate NY to the eastern islands of Canada to… the western islands of Canada! both of which fooled me with how large they were btw 🫢 (they’re FL-sized, not LI-sized!)

and as we search for our new home, i finally find myself wishing i could just go back to that home. sort of. partly the home, partly just our familiar places and faces and routines. it was so easy.

but i know we’ll find our next home soon, and all of that will fall into place again. a makeshift version already has, actually. there are a lot of cards on the table right now, some of which we can’t reach, but we will soon enough. hopefully they’ll be there waiting for us when the timing is right.

it’s a red, white, and appreciation post kinda day today! | |

every morning, when we leave for our walk or when we head out to run a midday errand, there are a few things i absolutely must have with me.

“my stuff” - keys, phone, wallet, blister tub, hand sani, flashlight, and knife (let’s talk more about solo travel and safety at some point, eh!) *i’d add pepper spray to the list, but i dropped it crossing the street one day and it got run over immediately 😬

patchy’s stuff - leash, p**p bags, treats, water bowl

water bottles vary by day, and at this point, i tend to just carry a gallon or 5 in the car so we always have some.

but the things that rarely change because i like them that much?

• my Alamo Treat Pouch, duh. i change colors when patch changes his collar lol
• my Farallon Field Day bag - it holds everythiiiing! except water. unless i use one of my smaller bottles. which i only do for v short walks. and it fits whatever extra junk i’ve tossed in.
• Montara foldable water bowl - i have a blue one that i ordered sitting in “my closet” at my sister’s place, but the red one is gorgeous and gets used at least 3x a week if not more. it holds patchy’s full meal of 2 cups of food and 2 cups of water!
• Funston p**p bag holder and compostable p**p bags - these are low key faves. nice to haves but man i love them. to have a holder that doesn’t flop around and just sits flush to the lead with a two-point attachment?? 😩🙏🏽 also the bags are bluuuue! 😍

that’s all for now. i’ve been thinking about this a lot lately - how grateful i am for these things. so here we are.

that’s a wrap! medal monday! win photo is in! that’ll get its own post though 🤪

my very first DCA National Specialty show was such a thrill. i have so much to share since i barely shared anything all week that i’ll have to spread it all out. from running fastcat with all of our fellow speedsters to seeing friends and more importantly [sorry friends] seeing

❗️❕❗️HUNDREDS OF DALMATIANS❕❗️❕

it was as magical as you could’ve imagined. for my Beachbody friends who’ve attended summit (which oddly enough was this week too), imagine being there, but everyone around you is a Dalmatian 😍🤩 dreamy, i know.

for anyone who understands baseball, we cycled the shows! we took 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place across 5 shows! but most importantly, we placed 2nd in the open black class during the national specialty show! 😳

we do have a lot to work on, and that’s fine. the anxiety of being in a space with so many magical creatures gets both of us a bit amped. luckily for me, i don’t have a tail that shows it… patch on the other hand? 😅🤭

more to come, but thank you to everyone who said hello, gave us advice, actively trained with us on site, taught me things, and became new friends… thank you all for making my first DCA as special as it could have been.

oh also, patchy got his FCAT2 Saturday night.

and i got some SOLID qt with papa Kodak and his mom, who is now my forever DCA roomie.

but more on that and everything else i forgot later. i need to pack up and get outta town! 😂

one of the coolest parts of this trip is that i have often found myself more present than ever before 😳

i am not worried about the future. i am not looking backwards or dwelling on the past. these things pop up from time to time, sure, but more often than not, i’m just “here” in every sense of the word. physically, i’m focused on my surroundings and Patch. mentally, i’m planning what we’re doing that day or in the next couple of days, but just so that we have some version of a guide to our nomadic days. emotionally, i get to do what i love most— be with Patch!

now, there is a downside to all of this. tomorrow will come, and after so many tomorrows, i’ll have to get back to reality, back to work, back to life. but that’s a whole other space that deserves full brain power when i’m ready for it.

for now, i’m happy where i am. and where i am, is here 🧘🏽‍♀️

p.s. PNW, you cute. it’s not even just Vancouver that’s cute. it’s all of this part of the world!! and boy were we ready for you… thank you for bringing moisture back into the air. thought we were gonna be found toasted out in the desert a few weeks ago, and i don’t mean in a fun way! 🤪

let me start by saying this: we were meant for this 🤩 i spoke a bit about confidence building in one of my recent posts, and i alluded to something that i had in mind that we were actually training for beyond confidence. well folks! this is it! the ability and confidence that patch has in his approach to obstacles as if they are everyday things we see on our walks and hikes is a foundation i started working on when my guy was a teeny little floppy pup. that, coupled with his bold nature and a curiosity that has taken so many cats’ lives 🤓 is going to make this a really fun sport for us. that same curiosity is going to get us into trouble too, i’m certain 😅 BUT i’d rather he be curious and willing to try things than scared and unwilling. agility was the only sport i actually knew about BP (in the before times… before patch). that and dock diving actually. i always thought it was so cool, but i don’t know that i ever associated getting Patch with doing dog sports. i think i thought only “professionals” did that stuff 😄 silly me. do you have any preconceived notions about dog sports? things you’ve just made up in your head and decided were truth but never confirmed? anyhow here’s to day 1 and all of the classes and trials to come! stick around @patchthedalmatianpup for more about our agility journey over the next few days/weeks to come. we have a lot planned already! 😳 #agilitydog #agility #dogsports #dogmomlife #dogmom #softballmom #athleteturnedcoach #dalmatian #dalmatiannation #sportsarelife #parkour #hardcoreparkour Life on the Road | Travel with Dogs | Agility | Driving to Practice

for anyone outside of the dog world, or even many of us in it, me saying i’m part of the “Dalmatian Club of America” truly, 1000% sounds like something i made up. when i was 5. 100% not real, couldn’t be, because who would actually do that?! 🤣😆 well jokes on all o’yall cuz guess what— it exists, i’m a part of it, i didn’t even make it up, and i’m about to see 101 Dalmatians IN. REAL. LIFE. and i’m gonna be in a place ALL WEEK with them and their crazy psycho dalmatian-loving pets… an a bunch of crazies just like me 🥹 #DCA2024 anyone who’s been here even a week or two knows we love FastCAT. there are a few safety things i wanna talk about when it comes to traveling (solo, solo + dog) but our home-on-wheels has been pulling these unlock-when-i’m-standing-nearby magic tricks more and more lately and this was the absolute worst offense (furthest distance it’s happened from). what happens next time when i walk away and don’t hear it randomly unlock on its own?? 😓 what if patch also figures out how to turn on the car and drive away?? what sorcery happened when we drove through the energy vortices of Sedona?!! in all seriousness, stay safe and always lock your car 4x to make sure it’s locked! it’s very not #dogfriendly (and is very bust) to leave your dog’s belongings in an unlocked vehicle! p.s. somebody find me that “what the hail?!” audio stat please! and the number to the closest @jeep dealership 😅 #dogfriendlyorbust #carproblems #lockyourcar #staysafe #jeepgirl #jeepgrandcherokee #dreamcar #roadtrippers #solotravel #safetytipsforwomen Dog Mom Stuff | Solo Travel | Travel with Dogs | Jeep
