THE PERFORMANCE (Expands to more screens) — Set in 1937, the film follows Harold May (Jeremy Piven), a Jewish American tap dancer, as he navigates moral and personal dilemmas while performing in N**i Germany, culminating in a tense encounter with Adolf Hi**er; starring Jeremy Piven, Robert Carlyle, and Maimie McCoy.

STAR TREK: SECTION 31 (Paramount+) — Emperor Philippa Georgiou joins Starfleet’s secretive Section 31 to protect the United Federation of Planets while confronting her dark past. Starring Michelle Yeoh, Omari Hardwick, Kacey Rohl, and Sam Richardson.

GRAFTED (Shudder) — A socially awkward exchange student in New Zealand takes her obsession with popularity and perfection to terrifying extremes through dangerous skin-grafting experiments, leading to a gruesome descent into body horror. Stars: Joyena Sun, Jess Hong, Eden Hart, and Sepi To’a.

CARRIE UNDERWOOD: REFLECTION (Hulu and Disney+) — A concert film capturing Carrie Underwood’s Las Vegas residency.

Robert Eggers has reportedly finalized a deal to direct a sequel to the 1986 Jim Henson musical fantasy film Labyrinth, nearly 40 years after the original. The cult classic included beloved characters like Jareth the Goblin King, played by David Bowie, and Sarah, played by a young Jennifer Connelly. Eggers is co-writing the screenplay for the sequel with Sjón, who he worked with on The Northsman. Plot details are currently undisclosed, but the project will continue the narrative from the original films, and involves A-list producers like Chris Columbus along with Henson family members. The sequel has reportedly been stuck in development for almost a decade, and went through many different directors before landing on Eggers. His Nosferatu remake was nominated for four Oscars yesterday, and he announced an upcoming 13th century werewolf movie earlier this week. (People)

Emilia Pérez leads the 2025 Oscar nominations with 13 nods, followed closely by The Brutalist and Wicked with 10 each. The other contenders for Best Picture are: Conclave, A Complete Unknown, Anora, Nickel Boys, The Substance, I’m Still Here and Dune: Part Two. Timothée Chalamet, 29, is now the youngest two-time Best Actor nominee since James Dean for playing Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, while Demi Moore continued her comeback with a Best Actress nomination for The Substance that she called “beyond my wildest dreams.” Kieran Culkin (A Real Pain), Sebastian Stan (The Apprentice), Zoe Saldaña (Emilia Pérez) are also among the acting nominees, along with both Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande for Wicked. Karla Sofía Gascón is now the first openly transgender acting nominee for her role in Emilia Pérez.

Notable snubs include Denzel Washington for Gladiator 2, Pamela Anderson for The Last Showgirl, and Selena Gomez for Emilia Pérez. The 97th Academy Awards, hosted by Conan O’Brien, will air live March 2, on ABC and Hulu. (THR)

A realtor for Adele’s former West Sussex mansion is having a hard time selling the property due to the singer’s past claims that the home is haunted. The current owner of the English estate, Nicholas Sutton, said that Adele’s comments “negatively impacted future marketing efforts and continues to affect the property’s reputation to this day.” According to Sutton, the 16-time Grammy-winner rented the 10-bedroom mansion for six months back in 2012. Adele told Anderson Cooper in an interview that her time at the estate – known as the Lock House – was “all quite scary, really,” and she hired a female bodyguard to stay in the home after hearing unexplained noises. Sutton only had one serious offer on the property in the 14 years it has been on the market, but it was rescinded “after learning about the property’s supposed haunted status, which was publicly mentioned by Adele during her tenancy.” (People)

LL COOL J was honored in Queens, New York, with a new solar-powered bronze statue titled “Going Back to the Meadows,” created by sculptor Sherwin Banfield. The statue played music weekly in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, celebrating the rap icon’s career. Banfield used traditional sculpting techniques to capture the strength and essence of LL COOL J.

On Tuesday (January 21), Record Store Day event organizers announced that Post Malone is the official 2025 Record Store Day Ambassador. Posty’s Billboard No. 1 album, F-1 Trillion, was a big seller in record stores since it was released back in August, with the breakout country star also making a guest appearance on “Fortnight,” the lead single from the best-selling album of 2024, Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department. Malone hasn’t announced a special release for this year’s Record Store Day – which is set to take place on April 12th – but in the past he has released limited edition RSD versions of his compilation, The Diamond Collection, and singles like “White Iverson” and “Circles.” “What an honor, I can’t believe I was chosen to be Record Store Day’s Ambassador for 2025,” Posty said in a statement. “Record Store Day is so important, and I really hope to do my part to keep it alive. On Tuesday (January 21), Ed Sheeran posted an Instagram Story to discredit an inflammatory article from The Sun that falsely claimed that the singer attended a New Year’s Eve party at J.K. Rowling‘s Scottish home. In Sheeran’s post, he shared a screenshot from X by British journalist India Willoughby, where she wrote, “Ed Sheeran reportedly went to JK Rowling’s New Year’s Eve party, too,” over the top of a previous headline about the singer. “Respectfully, India Willoughby, and any other journalist who has reported both these stories, neither are true,” Sheeran wrote. “I spent new year with my family and friends.” For her part, Willoughby was relieved to hear the clarification, writing a retraction on X, “Hi – this is great to hear 👍.
