National Elementary Schools Press Association National Elementary Schools Press Association (NESPA) Mark continues to serve as the Association's managing director.

The National Elementary Schools Press Association is an organization dedicated to helping elementary and middle schools start new and improve existing class and school newspapers. The association serves as a clearinghouse for schools interested in sharing information and newspapers with member schools from coast to coast

NESPA was founded at Carolina Day School in Asheville, NC by Mark Levin, CJE

in 1994. In 2011 the organization was transferred to the University of Alabama's School of Journalism & the Alabama Scholastic Press Association. Meredith Cummings, CJE took over as Executive Director.

Meet our new executive director, Hailey Allen!

Hailey is a Tuscaloosa native and two-time graduate of the University of Alabama College of Communication and Information Sciences where she received her bachelor's and master's degrees in journalism.

A researcher and storyteller at heart, Hailey enjoys learning from youth and children and uses her own experience and expertise to aid these groups in the creative expression of their unique narrative identities.

Before joining ASPA she worked as an independent consultant for international peace and nonviolence organizations based in the United States. As part of her doctoral work at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, she is currently writing her dissertation on Southern storytelling as narrative medicine.
