Let’s Sew Slithering Snakes!
Monday, November 4, 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm
Recommended for children ages 5+ with an adult. Drop-in format, no rsvp required. Montague Center Library.

Children are invited to try their hands at a first sewing project in this drop-in style workshop for ages 5 and up. Come stitch a colorful felted wool snake! Snakes are sewn with a blunt metal needle and use basic threading skills to assemble precut fabric pieces. Kids can add wooden beads to create a rattlesnake, explore color patterns, or make a friendly rainbow snake to take home. All tools and materials will be provided.

The Montague Public Libraries are hiring!

Have you ever wanted to work in a library? MPL is hiring three entry-level staff members: one Saturday Library Assistant, who will work at the Carnegie Library, and two Substitute Library Assistants who will fill in, as needed, at all three Montague Public Libraries.

Here are some details about each position:

Library Assistant
The Montague Public Libraries are accepting applications for a part-time Library Assistant at the Carnegie Library in Turners Falls. The Carnegie is the main library of the three Montague Public Libraries and is located on bustling Avenue A.

As a member of Montague’s dedicated team of library staff, the duties of the library assistant include: checking items in and out, shelving materials, reference services and interlibrary loan services, providing information and assistance to patrons and the community, and responding to inquiries, requests and complaints. Experience working with the public and computer skills are essential.

This is a 6-hour per week position scheduled for 10:00AM to 5:00PM on Saturdays with a one-hour lunch break. Additional fill-in hours at the Carnegie Library, Montague Center Branch Library, and Millers Falls Branch Library are occasionally available in addition to the 6 hours. This is a grade A position, and step 1 is $16.76/hour.

Substitute Library Assistants
The Montague Public Libraries are accepting applications for two Substitute Library Assistants. Work includes checking items in and out, shelving materials, reference services and interlibrary loan services, providing information and assistance to patrons and the community, and responding to inquiries, requests and complaints. Both customer service and computer skills are essential.

The Substitute Library Assistant fills in at the Carnegie Library, Millers Falls Branch Library, and/or Montague Center Branch Library when those libraries’ regular Library Assistants take vacation or sick time. While some shifts may be scheduled weeks or days in advance, the substitute library assistant will also be called to provide coverage day-of. This is a non-graded position and the pay is $15.00/hour.
