For the rest of June, we are going to celebrate fathers! Our first episode, "I Almost Lost My Wife and Child", Shawn and Jerusha Sejera share their journey through a high-risk pregnancy that was potentially life-threatening for both mother and expected child. Their son, Giovonni just graduated from the Little Light House and is shining his light in the world. Through laughter and tears, the Sejera's share how God has met them in their joys and struggles. Today's episode is "Learning Language through Literacy," and we are joined by some of our own Speech-Language Pathologists.

"If a child has never been read to we can expect around the age of five, they've been exposed to about 4600 words. But if they're read to one or two times per week, that jumps to about 64,000 words. Then it keeps going; if they're read to daily, it's about 297,000 words. And then if they're read to five times per day, we can expect about 1.5 million."

And I think watching that in other people's lives, where they just, they had struggles, but the love was so deep and so strong. And so there, it gave me freedom and permission to be unapologetically loving to my family and my child."

"As Gracie’s Dad, what does it mean for you to help Gracie be Gracie."
So, for me, that's turning on the music, and just watching her dance. Because my mom, loves dance. And to me dance is a big part of the happiness that I've had in my life. So being able to turn on the music, and watch Gracie rock out and just dance. You know, there's that country song and the main chorus is ‘I hope you dance’. I often think you know what, if nothing else, I hope you dance. And one of these days because of what has happened here at the Little Light House because of Sarah and I and the rest of my family in my extended family. I am confident that one day I will walk her down that aisle and I will have that first dance with her at her wedding.

Meet our host, Christina McEndarfer. Christina joined the Little Light House staff as an associate teacher in 2008. Inspired to gain skills to benefit the ministry, she earned a degree in Occupational Therapy Assisting. While practicing OT elsewhere, she served on the LLH Board of Directors. Now back on staff, she is passionate about helping families thrive. Launching this podcast is a dream come true, as another avenue to spread the unbounded hope embodied by the Little Light House to families around the globe.
