Thursday night there will be a life-threatening windchill of -23. Donations are greatly needed to keep people safe. Donations go towards sleeping bags, blankets, gloves, handwarmers, coats, tents, and other warm weather supplies. A native of Tulsa, Oklahoma, archaeologist Alicia Odewale is uncovering stories of resilience in the hundred years since the attack on Black Wall Street in the city’s vibrant Greenwood district.

Considered one of the worst episodes of racial violence committed against Black people in American history, the Tulsa Race Massacre left a devastating toll on generations of survivors and their descendants and impacted the very footprint of the district itself.

The burn ban has been extended until October 24. The temperatures are dropping but that doesn’t change the fact that we haven’t received enough rain to discontinue the burn ban.

What this means for you:

βœ…You can use electric or gas grills over concrete, gravel surfaces and non-flammable surfaces.

❌You can’t do any form of outdoor burning including:
-bonfires
-fire pits
-chimineas
-charcoal grills

In the city limits of Tulsa, you can receive fines of up to $1200 and/or 6 months in jail for violating the burn ban. οΏΌ

RaeLynn and Isaac visited the shop yesterday and had some fun on our coffee bean bags! The story: Our newest barista, Tori, was recently reunited with her children. Yesterday childcare fell through so she brought them to the shop. After spending her shift with them, Tori reflected, β€œI am just so grateful that I can spend time with them unsupervised.”

We are now accepting applications for Class 14 of our New Voices program.

New Voices is designed to increase the diversity in board leadership positions across Tulsa. The program is offered in partnership with the Tulsa Area United Way and the City of Tulsa.

All participants will have the opportunity to serve a one-year appointment on a TAUW agency board. Additionally, they will receive inside looks at the City of Tulsa’s public Authorities, Boards and Commissions.

Leadership Tulsa is seeking candidates with under-represented racial, cultural, religious, and ethnic backgrounds who have the commitment to serve in volunteer board leadership roles.
