Summer time here in AZ tends to be slow for racing events (other than drift or drag racing) so I bring you to Krav Maga!

The atmosphere here at is phenomenal. It's this incredible blend of mutual respect and controlled chaos and carnage! It was great to see those testing applying their skills and getting to the next level!

Monsoon Season!!

Be careful shooting lighting! The settings are interesting, you need them to be very under exposed because that flash is so very bright! If you have a trigger then awesome, but these were taken by hand on a tripod.

Martial Arts Monday 😉😁

they are more than the incredible Krav Maga they teach. They are an eclectic community of fantastic people!

Shooting here is tricky because of the lighting and the movement. There's a lot going on and people are constantly moving so to set up a shot you need to get creative on where to be so you're not in the way!

Sometimes simplicity can "wow" you!

I love this picture, the detail of the brushed black aluminum, the contrast of the Diavel and then the Carbon jumping out that you. The Carbon hits you first then you notice all the details around it.

I don't do photo shoots very often but it is such a fun way to be creative. Using the lighting, surrounding, and editing to make things pop!
Some of these should be in a magazine or an advertisement... *cough cough* *cough* 😉

Who here plays with colors?

I will color grade a photo to "normal" or what I saw with my eyes and then look at it again and okay around to see what might match the scene better. Like the first and second photos are similar, but I carried captured a veteran's day commercial and I felt the WWII veteran's looked better with the cold steel look and the modern sailors matched better with full color.

Don't be afraid to play around with things, photography is art and is open to endless possibilities!

Night Race! coming next Friday!.... well Sept 14th!

This is last year and it posed many challenges to shoot. But it allowed for some creative takes, practicing long exposure around turns to get the light trails! Panning was rather difficult because my 100-400mm only goes to f4 and it's dark, very dark! Oh yea and the snakes🤣 they're out at night.

Getting the cars and the lightning shots together was fantastic, such a cool back drop.

Black and White 😍🔲

Not all photos need to have color, some lend very well to be monochromatic because doing so brings out different details from full color. It also brings a feel and vibe, grain works great in black and white photos to give it that texture.

Motorsports Monday 🏎

Years ago, I had the pleasure of meeting and learning from an incredible pro driver . He took my 6 spd hellcat challenger around the track and showed me how it can drift in 3rd gear! From that point on, I was hooked in learning how to be a better and faster driver. I've had the incredible opportunity to do training with Kai on a few occasions and every time I leave with more knowledge and skill than before!

Now to the wild!

Yes, I love motorsports, but all of these photos are from around my house! This is what I really enjoy about photography. Each of these photos took a different setting, a different skill. An eye to make the scene, and just a ton of patience.

Those lightning photos are taken by hand, with no lightning trigger or device to shoot. I literally stood on my balcony (not recommended by the way during a lightning storm) with my finger on the "trigger" to snap these. I learned that you have to be exposed to the lightning and not the fact that it's pitch black out. 🤔😉

Taken with my r5 and either a 100-400mm or my 24-105mm.

Composition!

So I get locked in to just getting the most clean panning shots I can. Unfortunately, that is only part of the event or the scene. I have to take a second and make an effort to zoom back out, raise that shutter speed, and capture that beautiful backdrop around the track.

Taking a beat and readjusting your shooting allows you to get a better body of work, and it gives you the practice in composition!

Motorcycle Monday!

When I shoot, I approach it as a rider. I think, hmm, "what photo would I want of myself?" You see, when you're riding, you think you look like a rider, and then you see a standard photo and instantly hate yourself for not leaning more or going fast enough.

So I look at the parts of the track where max lean is and get a shot that gives the illusion of lean (some don't need that) even if you're hardly leaned over. This means taking a photo at just the right moment so it isn't too soon before or too long after where the bike is more upright.
For speed, the first two photos are at the same spot, one rider is just warming up, and the other is going as fast as they can... but they both look like their flying! Getting the blur is important here, I know some riders aren't fast, but they still deserve a killer shot of them "flying"!

As a photographer, this is all things to think about, to me, it isn't enough to get a clean picture. It has to show something else. Like those still shots show the massive rise in one part of the track. That's something told me they really wanted to emphasize.

New Balances not included 🤣

Race car to go cart, they come with their own challenges to shoot at distance. These were all taken at 200-335mm, panning at that length has been tricky for me, but it is something that I keep practicing every time I'm out.
At that length, I'm 1/80 -1/100, I have others at that length that were 1/25.
Shorter focal lengths I can get 1/15, but I rarely get close enough to shoot less than 100mm, so practice practice practice!
