John Goodman’s media background – ranging from producing and promoting two network morning news programs to public relations for some of America's best-known brands – gives him a unique perspective and success rate when it comes to media story placement. edia. He helped publicize ABC’s historic mini-series “Roots” and also promoted the debut of ABC’s World News Tonight. He’s done public relations work for United Jewish Appeal, The Mexico Ministry of Tourism, Weight Watchers, Hertz , Fuji Film, Opryland, and British Airways, and he’s media trained executives from CEOs to astronauts. Goodman has also publicized numerous books, including Thorns of Truth (By Eileen Goudge), The Complete Idiot's Guide to Parenting a Teenager (Kate Kelly), Money Makeovers (Kate Kelly and Dr. Christopher Harris), Living Safe In An Unsafe World, The Complete Guide To Family Preparedness (Kate Kelly), What Is Spirit? (Lexie Potamkin), The Manager's Guide To Hiring The Right Person for Every Job (DeAnne Rosenberg), Teens In Turmoil (Dr. Carol Maxym), The Employee Strikes Back (John Rapoport), and Ticket To Ride: Inside the Beatles' 1964 Tour that Changed the World (Larry Kane). Goodman has spent the past 10 years working for Stern & Company and Goodman Media International, New York PR firms, while also doing national media placement work for freelance clients. Goodman worked three years for Primetime Publicity and Media in Sausalito, specializing in national media placement. From 1991-93, Goodman was a Senior Vice President and National Media Director at Edelman Worldwide and placed over 250 stories about Edelman clients on television. From 1987-91, Goodman was a Senior Producer at CBS This Morning. During those years, he was involved in the production and promotion of the program and helped develop the “Oh What A Beautiful Morning” programming and promotional theme of the broadcast. Goodman worked closely with anchors Paula Zahn, Harry Smith, Mark McEwen and Kathleen Sullivan. He also served as an anchor producer for Smith and Zahn during the first Gulf War with Iraq. Goodman was at ABC’s Good Morning America from 1980-87 as an Associate Producer and Producer and was involved in the programming and promotion of that very successful program. During those years, he worked closely with David Hartman, Joan Lunden, Charles Gibson and Spencer Christian. Prior to Good Morning America, Goodman was the Press Representative for ABC’s World News Tonight and the ABC Evening News with Harry Reasoner and Barbara Walters. He was involved in the creation and debut of World News Tonight in July 1978 with three anchors in three cities, Frank Reynolds in Washington, Peter Jennings in London and Max Robinson in Chicago. Before joining ABC, Goodman was a freelance sportswriter for The New York Times, an Assistant Sports Editor at The Patent Trader in Mt. Kisco, N.Y., and the Sports Director at WVIP Radio. He began his career at the Ossining (NY) Citizen Register. Goodman, who attended Arizona State University and graduated from Emerson College, is married with two daughters and lives in Tuckahoe, N.Y.
