Dr. Mohammad Ali, an interventional radiologist with Baptist Medical Group in Jackson, MS. was on vacation on a beach in Florida's popular 30A area on June 7th when he jumped into action to help save Lulu Gribbin, 15, of Mountain Brook, Alabama, after the teen was severely injured in a rare shark attack.

As health care workers, and especially physicians, the goal is always to take care of the patient. Sometimes the patients are not in our hospital or clinics, but in public places and most will have a reflex action to help in any way they can. This past weekend one of our very own jumped into action to help save the life of a teenager who was attacked by a shark in Florida.

Dr. Mohammad Ali, interventional radiologist with Baptist Medical Group – Interventional Radiology and another physician were boogie boarding with their family and noticed a commotion and blood in the water not far from them. After getting their own family from the water, both physicians rushed to help. Dr. Ali noticed the severity of the injuries and applied a tourniquet to her upper leg and hand while the other physician and emergency personnel also assisted. The patient was transported to a local hospital and is expected to recover. Thanks to Dr. Ali for jumping into action! Our prayers are with the young lady and her family for her recovery.

Congratulations to Selma's own Asher HaVon for winning the 25th season competition of The Voice. Asher, 31, grew up singing in churches around Selma and Dallas County, and he led the choir that performed for President Obama during his 2015 Selma visit to observe the 50th anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery March. Asher told In Focus that his goal is Broadway, and he felt that Reba McIntire would be his best coach, given her success as a vocalist and actress. The Alabama native is the first openly LGBTQ+ singer to win the show in its 13-year history.

Actress Scarlett Johanssen says after she refused several offers to be the voice of ChatGPT, the company went ahead and used her voice anyway. Her own family thought it was her. The company says it's actually a different actress who served as model for the AI voice. Here's the story from NPR:

Johansson says she was approached multiple times by OpenAI to be the voice of ChatGPT, and that she declined. Then the company released a voice assistant that sounded uncannily like her.
