Nephi Lazarus, who was simply called "Dad" by everyone he knew, discovered the community pianos during our first year piloting the project.

You've never heard anyone tickle the ivories like he could, even still in his late 70's.

For the two years he still walked this earth during this project, he showed up at the State Street Coffee piano without fail every Sunday evening to play. I even caught him there during a downpour one time, and the rain was blowing in on him as he was playing. Nothing stopped him from coming and sharing his music.

You could ask for any old song or hymn, and he would pull it from a seemingly endless library of music in his head.

He created his own little community right there on the front of State Street; shop owners would come out from their shops to listen if they had a chance. Other community members would show up, on schedule, just to hear him play. One guy would Facetime his relatives in Turkey so they could hear "Dad" play.

I am still in touch with people I met though the community that he created. That was the goal of the whole project - to share music and create community - and that, he absolutely did.

Nephi passed away in November of last year, but his story is one I'll never forget.

Miss Emily played a fun medley of Phantom of the Opera music at our 5th Year Anniversary Recital!

Emily is the founder of Keys to Your Dream, LLC and one of the full time piano teachers at the studio. With 19 years of experience playing and 12 of teaching, if you asked her today... she would still tell you that this is her dream job. She is beyond thankful for the opportunities she's been given and the lives she's been able to touch.

One of Miss Emily's favorite parts of teaching is getting to know each student as an individual and tailoring their lesson to their learning style. Emily firmly believes that anyone can learn - they just need a teacher who can explain things in a way that will make the most sense to them. Emily takes delight in those lightbulb moments where things click into place and students can proudly progress!

If you know Miss Emily, you'll know that she always gives glory to God for the business' success - and today is no exception. We thank God for His goodness in bringing our business this far!

Our lovely Miss Vickey played The Skye Boat Song (theme from The Outlander) at our recent recital. Her instrument of choice for this song was Mountain Dulcimer, though Vickey can play many more instruments than that.

At our studio, Miss Vickey teaches Mountain Dulcimer, Ukulele, Steel Drum, and Piano - along with some custom classes and general music classes upon request.

Vickey has been teaching for 19 years and owns her own musical non-profit, the American Folk Music School and Dulcimer Museum in Sharonville, OH! You should definitely check it out!

What does Miss Vickey have so say about her favorite part of teaching?

"I absolutely love it when my students realize they can do it - especially my special needs students. It is watching the smiles and excitement on their faces that brings me joy!"
