San Francisco Moog: 1968-72 documents a missing link in the history of electronic music, as well as the little-known moment when psychedelic music went electronic.

Quick and dirty pop-up foley rig. The preamps are adequate (not ideal), so the signal to noise ratio needs to be pretty strong for this setup.

Great news to share: beginning this Saturday Aug. 21 ‘What Is Man and What Is Guitar’ is available worldwide for VOD viewing. The response has been more than we could have hoped. Hearts are full from all of the love for it. Thank you.

ANNOUNCED TODAY - listen/preorder now, Alexander Garsden 'Solo Guitar I' LP - nicemusiclabel.bandcamp.com

Nice Music presents the debut solo LP from guitarist and composer Alexander Garsden. Following his 2020 collection of guitar duets (with Tetuzi Akiyama, Julia Reidy and David Stackenäs) on US label Marginal Frequency, 'Solo Guitar I' is the first instalment in a series of releases documenting Garsden's work as a soloist over the last ten years.

This recording presents three works for steel-string guitar – contrasting in style and scale, yet linked by Garsden’s fascination with acoustic phenomena, his focussed interweaving of cyclical rhythmic variations and the stamina of his distinctive fingerstyle approach. Opening with the cascading, virtuosic study in harmonic and rhythmic density ‘Voiles’, the album regresses to a decade-old nod to his early influences in the post-Bailey idiom 'Nine Ravens (Variations)' before concluding with the side-long, raga-like peregrination in just intonation and metric modulation, '(A)WTG'. Pristinely mixed by Joe Talia and Anthony Pateras and expertly pressed by Program Records, this release captures the colours and tactility of Garsden's playing in immersive and intimate detail for the close listener to sink into.

Garsden's previous work includes performing and recording alongside a host of celebrated experimental musicians (Golden Fur, Erkki Veltheim & Rohan Drape, Radu Malfatti, Jim Denley, Oren Ambarchi), Melbourne’s underground folk acts (True Strength, Francis Plagne, Yuko Kono, Ned Collette, Grand Salvo) and notated compositions (commissioned by Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Speak Percussion, Michael Kieran Harvey, Jessica Aszodi). He co-directed the INLAND Concert Series from 2014-2019, presenting over 50 concerts of new notated, improvised, and electroacoustic music across Australia.

For fans of La Monte Young and Robbie Basho.

A rare and unexpected honor, "competing" in the International Short Film Festival, for the International MuVi award in Oberhausen. Simply impossible without dear collaborator and filmmaker Lana Z Caplan who situated my music within colorful yet stark visual territory...it will always feel inseparable from her images. 1st and 2nd prizes were announced a couple of weeks ago... congrats from here to Clara Balzary (dir.) and Kim Gordon (music).

A huge second release from Clara de Asís' and Mara Winter's Discreet Editions. I've never heard anything quite like this from RVH -- like a foggy sequence of conceptual bridges over the course of nearly an hour -- and it was something special to be involved for the mastering. Out in April over at https://discreet-editions.com/

Next month we will release ‘Mouths Without a Head’, a new work by Reinier van Houdt composed in resonance with Orlando di Lasso’s 16th century collection of chromatic motets, ‘Prophetiae Sibyllarum’.

Kinda nuts when a record you produced and played a little on gets glowingly reviewed in a prominent Dead zine (a what??). Ben Walden and Jeremy Meyer are the absolute p**p. Link in the comments to go hear what they've done. Truly masterful work in a roots vein I'm unsure how to describe, and I'm very good with that. Full streaming/purchase available tomorrow.

Taco Tapes comes to you as it came to us -- uninhibited, present in the now. Common music industry practice can bog an album down for years in a mire of edits, overdubs, recording sessions. Some of these songs are decades old, but they were recorded less than a month ago.

There are many reasons we recommend other DAWs that are more efficient than ProTools. The cost is just one of them. Large studios and production companies perpetuate the myth that PT is the industry standard, and we push back at them every time.

"I think our industry has needed to do better for a long time."
