Serena and Jimmy Wiley are Topanga originals who embody the authentic spirit of the Canyon. Join TNT contributor Ivan Kashinsky as he sits down with the Wileys for a heartfelt conversation about growing up and falling in love in Topanga in the wild and free 1970s and ’80s. This is the real Topanga, and it doesn’t matter if the people who experienced it still live here or not, they carry it with them always in their hearts. Photo of the Wileys by Ivan Kashinsky. West Basin Municipal Water District invites the community to join in the celebration of a major

District milestone at the 2025 Water Harvest festival, commemorating 30 years of recycled water production. This year’s theme honors West Basin’s longstanding leadership in sustainable water solutions since opening its flagship water recycling facility in 1995. The annual festival blends fun and education to raise public awareness of local water sustainability solutions and promotes environmental stewardship.

This free, family-friendly event will take place on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Edward C. Little Water Recycling Facility, located at 1935 S. Hughes Way in El Segundo.

Lucile Yaney and her husband Dr Ralph Yaney established the Inn of the Seventh Ray in 1975. Celebrated for its beautiful, magical Topanga creekside setting and a menu that is sublime but also organic and healthy, the Inn is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary this year. Dr Ralph passed away ten years ago, but Lucile—Lucy—is still at the helm, now working with co-owner and chef Bradley Miller. Fifty years is an amazing milestone for any restaurant, and this one has faced more than its share of extraordinary challenges, but it has endured and become an integral part not only of Topanga but of Los Angeles, drawing visitors from all over Southern California and the world. Join us for a celebration of this legendary Topanga landmark’s history.

“It was called “Maikura,” and it was home to as many as 500 people. It had a marketplace, shops, an inn, restaurants, a church, and even a Japanese garden with a bridge and a pool and a miniature forest of banzai trees. Anyone who travels from Topanga to Santa Monica on Pacific Coast Highway drives right through the heart of Maikura, but nothing is left now, not even the name.” Check out TNT Editor Suzanne Guldimann’s Discover Feature Maikura, A Village by the Sea, to find out more about Los Angeles’ seaside Japanese village.
