Toledo Parent

Toledo Parent Since the 1990's, we've provided the best in family-oriented news, advice and humor. Whether you're

Toledo Area Parent has come a long way since 1992, when we began publication in the basement of our publishers' home, as they juggled the task of raising two small children with producing a first-class parenting publication. Our reach has expanded and our readership has grown, but we're still dedicated to giving parents and families everything they're looking for. TAP has plenty of advice for you

when you need it, whether you're a veteran mom or dad, or expecting and exciting. Our writers include teachers, doctors and parents like you, to help you deal with every stage of your child's growth. We've got plenty of inspirational stories to share — profiles of community leaders, opportunities for families with special needs, and a lot more. Our food writers are ready to help you find the best restaurants to feed your hungry clan. And don't forget the one-of-a-kind humor of our own Mother Mayhem! It's not just the print publication, though — TAP is active in the community, with events like our annual Summer Camp Fair and Back to School Fair drawing crowds, and helping families find the resources they need. And our content — including our full events calendar — is all available on our newly-redesigned website, at www.toledoparent.com.

It’s hard to believe with all the new technology that kids have these days, that at one point in history kids would’ve simply played with a stick and a rope. Add some imagination and those two simple objects could become anything. Until relatively recently, the toy industry in America was pretty...

Eighth-grader Riley Stramel of McCord Junior High in Sylvania has led the charge to bring composting to the school.

Over the summer, Riley worked to secure funding to cover the cost of the pickup program—an essential step in making the initiative possible. He hopes to expand the composting project to additional schools across the district.

Riley Stramel, an eighth grader at McCord Junior High in Sylvania, has come up with a project that’s worth its weight in gold—specifically black gold, which is what many call organic composting. Thanks to him, McCord students, faculty and staff separate leftover food and paper products from gene...
