Super Museum Sunday is February 9, 2025 - Free Admission to Georgia's State Historic Sites

On Super Museum Sunday, history comes to life across Georgia as dozens of museums, historic sites, and cultural institutions (like the museum at A.H. Disaster Recovery Center in McDuffie County to Close Permanently Jan 25

ATLANTA The Disaster Recovery Center in McDuffie County is set to close permanently at 6 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 25. It is currently open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday through Saturday.
The recovery center is at this location:
McDuffie County
Thomson Depot
111 Railroad St.
Thomson, GA 30824
Residents can visit any open center. They can find the center closest to them by going to fema.gov/drc. All centers are accessible to people with disabilities or access and functional needs and are equipped with assistive technology.
FEMA provides help to all disaster survivors, regardless of race, color, national origin, s*x, s*xual orientation, religion, age, disability, English proficiency, or economic status. Our top priority is ensuring that disaster assistance is reaching people in need.
If you are in an affected county, you are encouraged to apply for FEMA disaster assistance. You can online apply at DisasterAssistance.gov. You can also apply using the FEMA App for mobile devices or calling toll-free 800-621-3362. The telephone line is open every day and help is available in most languages. Survivors can also contact the Georgia Call Center at 678-547-2861 Monday through Saturday for assistance with their application.

The McDuffie County School System will return to a regular schedule on Friday, January 24. The Transportation Department will contact any parents who may need to meet buses at the end of roads still impacted by the weather.

FROM MCDUFFIE COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT!
Hazardous travel conditions persist after yesterday’s snowfall. With sub-freezing temperatures expected overnight, roads throughout McDuffie County will on ce again be dangerous tomorrow. In the interest of keeping our students, staff, and community safe, the district will enact a “Learn from Home Day” for January 23. Students should continue working on their previous assignments. We also ask that everyone continue to monitor One-Call notifications, the system website and social media accounts, as well as local media outlets for additional updates. Please note the public hearing on House Bill 581 scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on Thursday will be rescheduled. Thank you again for your patience and cooperation during this ongoing situation.

District officials have continued to track the incoming weather conditions. Due to the forecast of winter precipitation and sub-freezing temperatures causing travel concerns, the McDuffie County School System will enact a Learn from Home Day on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. Students received assignments and instructions on Friday and prior to leaving school on January 21. Any additional updates will be shared through One-Call notification, the system website and social media accounts, as well as local media outlets. The safety of our students and staff is of utmost importance. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

District officials have been actively monitoring the weather forecast for the remainder of this week. We will conduct an early release day for Tuesday, January 21. We will continue to monitor forecasts for the rest of the week and will announce a decision about Wednesday, January 22 on tomorrow. The release times for tomorrow are as follows:

11:00 - Dearing Elementary and Sand Hills

11:15 - Special education buses at all schools

11:20 - Thomson-McDuffie Middle

11:25 - Thomson High

11:30 - McDuffie Achievement Center, Maxwell Elementary, Thomson Elementary, Norris Elementary

In preparation for potential school closures, instructional materials will be sent home with students today. The district will announce any potential closures on Monday, January 20, 2025.
