The Cottage at Green Hill Farm was built by William Scott, one of Bedford County’s first residents, who arrived here in 1754. The cottage was the family’s original residence until a larger home on the farm was constructed around 1790. The cottage was then used as a kitchen and servants’ quarters. After being owned by four other families, the farm was purchased by E.E. and Delia Crumpacker Rieley i
n 1912. Green Hill Farm has remained in the Rieley family since that time. The brick cottage is approximately 1000 sq. It has a full kitchen with marble countertops, farm sink, retro stove and refrigerator, and a working fireplace. The bathroom is a rustic yet elegant combination of brick, wood, tile, marble and wrought iron. The bedroom is charming and cozy with ten to twelve inch wide heartpine floors, antique furniture and lovely mountain vistas. There are also two sitting rooms for relaxation, watching a film, or reading a book. The porch overlooks the farm’s pastures and old barns where you may glimpse our rare breed Scottish Blackface sheep and heritage chickens. During a stay at the cottage guests will enjoy: a complimentary bottle of wine with a cheese and fruit plate, free wi-fi, LCD flat screen television with streaming Netflix and on-demand movies, luxurious bed linens, natural/locally handcrafted toiletries and an in-cottage breakfast with cereals, fruits, yogurt, and homemade pastries as well as a Keurig brewer with a wide selection of coffees, teas and other hot beverages.
