Area police gained a new honorary officer today. Ten year-old Devarjaye (DJ) Daniel is battling a rare form of spine and brain cancer. To raise awareness, and pursue his dream of being a police officer 👮 Daniel has traveled thousands of miles with his father to be sworn in for honorary duties with various law enforcement agencies. Texarkana Arkansas and Texas police, along with Wake Village police and both Bowie and Miller County Sheriff’s Departments participated in the event with Daniel Thursday. Miller County District Judge Tommy Potter administered the honorary oath.
The Texarkana Symphony Orchestra announced the appointment of Philip Mann as its new music director today at a press conference in front of the Perot Theater in downtown Texarkana. Maestro Mann signed an initial three year contract with the TSO beginning June 1, 2019.
The first annual Ratha Yatra Parade for Peace was held in Texarkana Saturday in the city’s down town area. The festival dates back 5,000 years in India on the east coast, in the state Orissa. The celebration included music, song, and dance followed by a community meal. Organizers said the Ratha Yatra Parade for Peace welcomes people from all backgrounds and religions. Arkansas Governor, Asa Hutchinson made a stop in Hope, Arkansas today for a ribbon cutting to celebrate the opening of a veteran's service office here. The district office is one of several across the state aiming to make it easier for veterans to get help filing their federal benefits claims.
Texarkana, Texas police are asking for help identifying these suspects. At about 4 a.m. Thursday of last week, according to a media statement issued by authorities, these two men allegedly broke into a truck on Wyatt Street and removed several items from the console.
