We had an incredible time at GenCon this year! Thank you to everyone who stopped by and played our game. Your enthusiasm and feedback were invaluable, and we are already looking forward to seeing you at the next convention.

Over the last few months, we have been tirelessly working on enhancing your gaming experience. Currently, David has been deeply immersed in developing the second module in the Banker’s Ours campaign, titled Repo Men. This module will introduce players to various factions within the Starlight setting. Depending on your actions, you might gain the support of some factions or find yourself at odds with others, making each playthrough a unique adventure.

Meanwhile, Phil has been devoted to creating new playable races. Our goal is to ensure these races are more than just a different set of stats. We are focusing on giving them distinct histories, biology, and perspectives. These differences will offer rich opportunities for player-to-player and player-to-NPC interactions, adding depth and immersion to your gameplay.

Rank 5 Games is launching Starlight on July 31st, 2024!

We are excited to announce that Rank 5 Games, a new indie game studio, will launch its first product on July 31st, 2024. Starlight is a science fiction-based tabletop role playing game that lets you explore the galaxy, create your own starship, and engage in thrilling adventures.

Starlight features a robust crafting and shipbuilding system, engaging diplomacy encounters, realistic tactical combat, and exciting spaceship battles. Players can visit alien planets, fight alien creatures, and fend off pirates to make their glory among the stars.

Hello my fellow gamers. Today, let’s talk about our latest work.

Play Testing
One of our focuses has been reviewing and play testing each system. This week we reviewed and play tested the Diplomatic Encounters system. The play testing went well, and we made many revisions to the text and just a few revisions to the rules. All-in-all, our rules are working out really well and the revisions we have been making have been geared more towards adding variability to actions the players can take.

Rule Revisions
We are continuing to revise the rules. The latest is to the Hacking system to bring that system more in line with other encounter systems like tactical and diplomatic encounters. The revision makes hacking more like a mini encounter, with rounds, turns, actions, and damage. Hackers now face a risk versus rewards system.

Products
We have been working on our product offerings as well. We have been putting together box sets which will provide a new player with all the materials they need to play Starlight. Each boxed set will contain a set of dice, some miniatures of ships, missiles, drone swarms, and characters. We will have more advanced boxed sets that contain battle mats and other items.

Website
On the website, we have been working on making the site more user friendly. We revised the site navigation system to make finding rules as easy as possible. We are still working on deep linking the rules within the text as well. That is a large endeavor, but it makes looking up rules so much easier than referencing an index in the back of a book. However, for those who like indices, we are creating an index page as well.

Gen Con
We are extremely excited about this year’s Gen Con, this being Rank 5’s first attendance. We have been spending some of our time preparing for Gen Con. We will be running six games per day for all three days. Sign up and we look forward to seeing you there.

There are many other tasks we have been working on, but these are the main ones. I appreciate your time reading and we are looking forward to launch day on July 31st.

Hello my fellow gamers. Today, we have made the decision to delay the launch of Starlight to July 31st. While we did not make this decision lightly, we feel it is in the best interest of the game. I had hoped that we would have made more progress however we are not where we would have liked to be. I want to have the first three adventure modules and quick start videos completed before we launch.

So, that is the bad news. Now, onto the good news. With the delay in the launch, this gives us an opportunity to offer some people free early access to playtest the game in exchange for your feedback. If this is something that would interest you, and you have a group of 5 or 6, send us a message and we will get you early access.

Hello my fellow gamers. We had a very productive week. The Opening Accounts module has been completed and we will run it through some additional play testing over the next few weeks to verify some last-minute changes. We started on the second module in the Bankers Ours campaign, called Repomen. Work on the member’s site is still ongoing. We are deep linking all the rules to make navigation of the site very user friendly. We have also been working on adding the artwork into the member’s site as well.

Hello my fellow gamers. Just wanted to let everyone know that Rank 5 Games will be at Gencon 2024. We are running two tables, three games each per day to demo Starlight. We will be running the Opening Accounts module. Each day we will run a separate part of the module that demonstrates either spaceship combat, tactical combat, or diplomacy encounters. If you want to play the entire module, sign up for all three sessions!!! Or you can just swing by and meet the team. Once we find out where our tables will be, I will post an update. Hello my fellow gamers. Just a quick note on our current progress. This week was a great week with a lot of work being completed.
First, we got all the game rules uploaded to the website. This is a long process that involves taking our internal documents and converting them over to HTML and uploading them to our site. It takes a bit. But it has been completed.

Second, we are working on getting our video processing worked out so that we can get those walk-through videos completed for launch. These videos will allow you to quickly learn the rules without having to read hundreds of pages. Once we get the process down, we should be able to crank out those videos, get them edited and then uploaded.

Finally, we have the very first module almost completed. The module, Opening Accounts, is the first in a campaign series called Bankers Ours. Opening Accounts walks the players through the very first module and is used to illustrate the various processes of Starlight, such as ship building, diplomacy, ship combat, and finally tactical combat. This first module is in the final stages of editing and play testing.

We plan on releasing an update weekly to keep you informed of our progress as we move rapidly towards our launch date. So, follow us on Facebook to receive those updates.
