North Allegheny’s girls soccer team got off to a high-scoring start to the season. The Tigers defeated Altoona, 7-0, in the season-opener Aug. 23, at NA Intermediate High School.

Bella Montgomery scored twice, and Rowan Barsotti, Addison Heim, Luciana Zagacki, Mia Bosley and Mia Barsotti added goals.

North Allegheny’s girls golf team opened the season with a 5-1 record and 4-0 mark in Section 1-3A.

The Tigers have posted wins over Mt. Lebanon (195-195), Mars (182-201), Butler (173-193), Blackhawk (176-180) and Shaler (192-214) and lost to Fox Chapel (181-195).

“The subscription is a money-saving opportunity in the event a subscriber uses an emergency ambulance,” authority Chris Dell said. “Any balance left unpaid by insurance will not be the responsibility of the patient. As deductibles and co-pays have increased, the subscription program is all the more valuable.”

The annual subscription drive of the McCandless Franklin Park Ambulance Authority is being mailed to residents of local municipalities as a potential cost-savings measure in the case of emergency care.

Drivers in that area faced intermittent detours and road closures for a portion of July and August. The major roadside and infrastructure upgrades are being done in tandem with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 11, West View Water Authority, and Peoples Natural Gas.

Work on Cumberland Road, which accesses McKnight Elementary and North Allegheny Intermediate schools in McCandless, pretty much finished just in time for the start of classes on Aug. 22.
