Our Story
South Tampa native Matt Jeffries' dedication to music has led him to open a more contemporary and innovative music studio to encourage musicians, youth bands and ensembles, to take their "chops" to a new level through private and group instruction, personalized musical arrangements, performance technique, songwriting, and recording.
Matt grew up in South Tampa where he attended Roosevelt Elementary, Coleman Middle, and Plant High Schools. While at Plant, Matt was a 2-year Captain of the Drum Line, very active in the Plant Chorus, and the lead singer/guitarist in his own band. He graduated from Plant in 2008 and headed to Tallahassee to attend Florida State University.
Matt went on to sing in the nationally ranked FSU a-cappella ensemble All-Night Yahtzee, and formed the band Spirits of 44. His band was chosen to have their original songs recorded by Renegade Records, and to open for FSU's 2011 Homecoming Concert. During summers, Matt hosted and instructed Rock Band Camps for aspiring young musicians in South Tampa, many of whom went on to form their own successful bands. Matt graduated from FSU in 2012 with dual degrees in Finance and Political Science.
Currently, Matt is the Music Director for the Lifeteen Band and Youth Group at Christ the King Church. He also entertains with an acoustic set at private parties, weddings, and the annual Christ the King Carnival.
Matt specializes in helping form and coach youth bands, church bands, and individual musicians to take their "chops" to a new level. Chops Music Studio is centrally located on the corner of Malijo and Bay to Bay Blvd.
