The last Keepsake (‘Kept My Name’) is a song born from the quiet, persistent echoes of love that once burned brightly but has since faded into memory. To me, that name is more than just a word, it's a delicate vessel, a fragile seed planted deep within the soil of the heart. Even as the seasons change and love’s warmth wanes, that seed refuses to wither; it sprouts memories that shimmer in the silent corners of the mind, a lighthouse guiding us through the fog of loss.

This song reflects on how we clutch onto these remnants, sometimes out of pain, sometimes out of nostalgia, sometimes just to feel connected to what once was. That name becomes a ghost of affection, a whisper of hopes and fears, a relic of moments that once defined us. It’s like holding onto a keepsake, something small and precious that keeps the story alive.

I also see it as a vine that’s been pruned and shaped by the hands of time and circumstance. Sometimes cruelly trimmed, sometimes tenderly cultivated, the roots run deep, digging into past choices, influences, and scars of betrayal. The shadow of the past can obscure our true self, hiding behind layers of regret and disappointment. Yet, within that shadow lies the profound truth: even love, when traded for material pursuits or lost in the rush of life, leaves behind a mark that cannot be erased.

At its core, the song is an ode to the sacred fire of memory, a quiet flame that continues to burn, illuminating the darkness with whispers of hope, pain, and all that once was. When you speak that name, you summon the eternal echoes of love, stories etched into the chambers of the heart, stars that refuse to burn out. It’s a testament that some bonds, some loves, are forever engraved in our souls, unbreakable and everlasting, shining through the night until our final breath.”

As 2025 draws to a close, I want to take a heartfelt moment to thank my FFF — Family, Fans, and Friends — for an truly extraordinary year! Your unwavering support, encouragement, and shared love of music have made this journey more meaningful than ever.

This year marked the release of “Thursday’s Child” a project I’m incredibly proud of. You can listen to it here: https://richallenmusic.bandcamp.com/album/thursdays-child . A massive thank you to the 33,000 listeners on Spotify every stream, every play, and every share fuels my passion and inspires me to keep creating.

One of the most unforgettable highlights of 2025 was returning to my hometown to perform at the Cape May Singer-Songwriter Festival in March. Performing in front of familiar faces, in a place that holds so many memories, was truly special. The warm reception and the shared energy were absolutely invigorating. I’m thrilled to announce I’ll be returning there again in March 2026 — I can’t wait to see old friends and make new ones.

This year also brought incredible recognition and accolades. I was honored to receive the Silver Award from ISSA and to win the Best Folk Song for “Graceful Lily” from The Intercontinental Music Awards. To have my song *No Pinks* considered for a Grammy nomination was a humbling experience a testament to the power of songwriting and the community that supports it.

Performing at various songwriter festivals, embarking on my East Coast tour, and participating in songwriter circles are moments I hold close to my heart. These experiences continuously ignite my creative spirit, pushing me to craft songs that resonate deeply.

Exciting news , I’ve finished recording my next project, which I can’t wait to share with you in the coming year. The upcoming single, “The Ghost We Keep” is an emotional, soulful journey through love, loss, and lingering memories. With evocative lyrics and a haunting melody, it captures that universal feeling of sensing someone’s presence long after they’re gone.

In addition, I launched my songwriter’s blog at IndieResonantVoice.com, a space dedicated to sharing stories, insights, and inspiration for fellow songwriters and music lovers alike.

Looking ahead to 2026, I am filled with anticipation and excitement. The first single drops on Friday, January 2nd — mark your calendars! I can’t wait to continue this musical adventure with all of you.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for an unforgettable year. Here’s to new music, new memories, and a bright, beautiful 2026!

Hey everyone,
So, let’s talk about something that’s pretty much the core of what we do ,being real. As songwriters, we’ve got this crazy superpower: the ability to turn our thoughts, feelings, and weird little quirks into music. But here’s the thing: staying independent and transparent isn’t always the easiest route. It’s kind of like choosing to wear socks with sandals, bold, a little risky, but totally worth it.
First off, authenticity is everything. When you write from the heart, you’re not just making noise, you’re making something that’s genuinely you. And honestly, nobody can copy that vibe because, let’s face it, nobody else has your weird brain. Independence? That’s just us saying, “Hey, I’m calling the shots here.” No label telling us what to sing or what beats to bump. It’s about keeping our creative freedom because, at the end of the day, no one knows us better than ourselves.
Now, exposing ourselves through our music, yeah, that’s where things get interesting. It’s like jumping into a cold pool uncomfortable at first, but then you realize how refreshing it is. Being transparent means sharing those messy, imperfect parts of us, and surprisingly, that’s where the magic happens. Vulnerability isn’t weakness; it’s like a secret sauce that makes your music stand out and connect. Plus, it’s way more fun to be real than to pretend to be someone you’re not.
And let’s not forget: being independent and transparent is kind of a philosophical middle finger to the idea that we need to follow the crowd. We’re saying, “I’ll do it my way,” even if that way is a little chaotic or unconventional. Because true freedom isn’t just about doing whatever you want, it’s about honoring your own voice and style.
So, here’s the deal: exposing yourself may feel a little scary, but it’s also the most empowering thing you can do. When you lay your truth out there, you’re taking control of your story. And honestly, that’s pretty badass.
In the end, writing music is about reflecting who we are and who we want to be. The more honest and transparent we are, the more we connect. And isn’t that what it’s all about? Creating art that’s real, raw, and uniquely ours.
Thanks for reading this far now go out there and be unapologetically you.
