Media Professionals of Florida, Inc. (MPFI)

Media Professionals of Florida, Inc. (MPFI) A place to network with local media professionals! The next portion of our meeting provides networking opportunities where food and friends abound.

Professional Programs, Seminars and Events

MPFI monthly programs are structured to enlighten, inform and entertain our members. First, the meeting begins with a 30 minute technical track or vendor showcase giving up-to-the-minute coverage of technological products, changes and sometimes a view into the digital crystal ball . The main program of each month's meeting focuses on topics chosen to enh

ance understanding and professional development within the media. Networking

Again and again our members realize the importance of networking in our community. Through contacts made within and outside of our association, our members add another dimension to the value of MPFI membership. Professional contacts within the community are a valuable asset and resource. The opportunity to share and encourage the use of media in corporations, industry, government, education, healthcare and small businesses is provided during a meeting "Mixer" segment. Our members promote a non-competitive environment allowing a free-flow of information. Membership Directory

One of the most valuable membership benefits is the On-Line Membership Directory. The Directory lists members alphabetically, by name and by business type. Potential clients can use this membership guide in locating individuals and companies within MPFI that offer professional services. Links to an MPFI member's business site will augment marketing potential and improve business. MPFI Business Partner Discounts

Taking advantage of discounts offered by our MPFI business partners is simple. Just contact the company that you would like to receive a discount from and your name will be cross-referenced on an updated MPFI member list. And because you are on our member list, you are entitled to a great discount.

We assembled a panel of the top production sound guys in the marketplace, to discuss their different styles and techniques of capturing location sound.

We assembled a panel of the top production sound guys in the marketplace. Kevin Daughtry, Rick Deal, Josh Harris and Mike Stahr, discussed their different styles and techniques of capturing location sound, the types of equipment that are used today and why with today's cameras like Red and Canon DSLRs it's more important than ever to monitor and record audio separately. It was great to be able to listen to what the experts have to say. As recent history has shown us, audiences are forgiving of poor camera work but have little tolerance for poor audio. What you hear might just be the difference in the success of your next project.

Rod Harlan talked about Adobe products, how they work in the cloud and some of the misconceptions around the move to the cloud. Rich Roddman introduced the audience to other companies that are offering cloud collaboration for projects, large and small. Companies like A-Frame and Kollaborate are leading the way in providing solutions for digital assets taking away the bottlenecking of single location storage and allowing you to work with anyone... anywhere on the globe.

Bill Mills, president of FBMA Production, provided us a hands on look at the newest in camera technology with the Sony F55. The Sony 4K image sensor incorporates a remarkable electronic frame image scan. You get superb dynamic range, the widest color gamut, and pristine image quality whether you shoot in HD, 2K or 4K. With the optional AXS-R5 recorder, you can even make the jump to incredibly precise 16-bit Linear RAW in both 2K and 4K. Rich Roddman, president of SilverBox Studios, worked with Bill and demonstrated the “workflow” between camera and editing. There was hands-on examples that augmented the presentations.

Flanders Scientific displays their latest series of professional broadcast monitors.

If you are in the Film & Video field, you need a good monitor upon which you can rely. Directors, DoPs, Editors and Video Engineers need to be able to trust that what they are seeing is the actual signal; their reputations depend on it.

Flanders Scientific displays their latest series of professional broadcast monitors. Before this, one had to travel to a tradeshow to see these in person. This even let you see for yourself why everyone raves about these monitors. We were able to check out image quality, menu settings and the numerous features these monitors offer.

Also, Bram Desmet, GM of Flanders Scientific, made a short presentation about LED and OLED technology being used in today's monitors and will take questions about their monitors and how to get the best image for your situation.

MPFI at First Unit Production Services

Bob Baker from First Unit Production Services was our presenter.

Your options for moving the camera now seem limitless... "traditional dollies" (PeeWee, Fisher, Doorway, Western), Skateboard Dollies, the Dana Dolly, Sliders, Jibs... they all have their place, of course. But, it can be difficult to know which one to use.

A second situation is AC power distribution. When you're on location and you need power for lighting and production gear, how do you know which circuit will be suitable? We'll get the answers! And if you don't have access to AC power, what size generator do you need?

The meeting was als a tour of the First Unit facility.

Industry Hot Topics - Looking at the Changes Ahead

If you work as a Producer, in Production, in Post Production or, like many of us, you have to work in all three, you can't help but notice that our industry has yet again come to a pivot point in this 20 plus year digital revolution.

Do I really need to think about 4K?
Is new equipment worth the investment?
What editing system is best suited for today's media?
What are the new standards?
And most importantly, how will this affect me?

Rich Roddman presented some facts about these topics, while debunking some common myths along the way and answering some questions from the audience.
