Legendary defensive coordinator, Monte Kiffin, has passed away at 84.
Working alongside Tony Dungy, Kiffin helped create and implement the 'Tampa 2' defensive scheme that eventually propelled the Buccaneers to their victory in Super Bowl ###VII.
During Kiffin's 13 seasons leading Tampa Bay's defense, the unit ranked in the top 10 in yards allowed 11 times and in points allowed 12 times. During that same 13-year span, the defense led the league in points allowed per game (17.5), ranked second in takeaways (293) and yards allowed per game (286) third in interceptions (249) and 10th in total sacks (503).

Scott Reynolds is reporting that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and QB Baker Mayfield are ânearly $20 million apartâ regarding contract negotiations:
âPewter Report is not sure which side made the initial offer â whether it was the Bucs or Mayfieldâs agent, Jack Mills. But Mayfieldâs camp opened negotiations with an offer rumored to be at $44 million per year. The thinking there is that Mayfield is a better quarterback than New York Giants starter Daniel Jones, who makes an average of $40 million per season.
Tampa Bay is rumored to have either countered â or started â with an offer of $25 million per year, which is the Geno Smith contract. After a career turnaround season in Seattle in 2022, replacing Russell Wilson as the starter, Smith signed a three-year, $75 million contract extension with the Seahawks.â

Tampa Bay is set to take on $7.4M in 2024 dead money by not getting a deal done today.
âThe expiring contracts for Mike Evans and Baker Mayfield will void today, leaving a combined $14.5 million in dead money counting against the 2024 salary cap. Signing new deals with either would have kept some of that dead money in future seasons, but this was expected.â

They fought hard until the end, ultimately falling short just one game away from the conference championship.
This season WAS a success. The Bucs are building something special down in Tampa Bay.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and quarterback Baker Mayfield have expressed 'mutual interest' in a 2024 return, as reported by NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
"My understanding is, the Bucs want Baker Mayfield back next year," Rapoport said Sunday on NFL Network's NFL Game Day. "He wants to be back as well, potentially cash in on a real, big-time quarterback deal."
The aim to bring Mayfield back, with potential for a significant quarterback deal, considering the option of the franchise tag at an estimated $36.3 million for the upcoming season.
