“You can see here, cats walk on their toes. When a cat is declawed it’s an amputation to the first joint. Basically, the toes are amputated. This changes the way a cat walks and over time causes arthritis to multiple areas of the cat's body. Declawed cats often avoid the litter box because of pain in the feet and arthritis in the body. Please do not declaw your cat - it can cause serious health problems during their lifetime, and there are many solutions to discourage scratching on furniture. If this is something that you are considering, perhaps you should get a gold fish instead.”
