This post marks the second in a series we've put together to highlight various causes that mean the most to our team.
Desiree, our Campaign Account Lead, is an active supporter of Autism Awareness. In 2015 her son was diagnosed with Moderate to Severe Autism. Before 2015, Liam was developing as a typical child should, then at 20 months his speech started declining, then his motor functioning skills, and finally his over physical and emotional health.
According to the National Autism Association, 1 in 54 children are touched by autism, more than 50% diagnosed have intellectual disabilities, with boys being 4 times more likely to have autism than girls. Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder that typically impacts children at the early age of 12-18 months.
"Every story of Autism is different and every child on the spectrum has a unique journey but as parents, family, friends, and caretakers, it’s our duty to love, protect, and teach our children to become independent functioning individuals. I support Autism awareness to educate, advocate, and change the way neurodiversity is viewed."
Desiree would like to highlight her favorite local nonprofit, Face Autism Inc. This nonprofit provides yearly services, events, and socials for children and families with Autism. Events include Movies, Bowling, Pool Days, Sensory Santa, Easter Egg Hunts, Dance Classes, etc. Almost all their events are free, and all are welcome to participate! Their mission: “To help those with autism receive the support necessary so that they can to can make their own contributions to society."
