Come along on our cruising adventure on our 1984 Kadey Krogen Manatee trawler. Justin, Vi, and our dog, Casey, sailing on our boat named Jiji.

It’s been a busy week with our parents visiting, still working on our bowsprit, helping our dock neighbors, and starting the first steps of our electrical refit. We’re getting new batteries, solar panels, monitoring systems, and navigation gear, so the boat can be at anchor for longer periods of time!

The project continues! It has taken much longer to complete this than we initially thought - mostly due to weather since it’s been too cold for epoxy to set, but it’s coming along nicely. Hopefully it’ll be back on by next week.

Our boat is 40 years old and while she’s in good shape for her age, there are some things that need to be fixed. Which is why we’re bowsprit-less for the next few days as we rebuild and reinforce it. Since the bowsprit holds our anchor, windlass, and bow cleats, it’s pretty important that it’s sturdy.

This week we helped our friends on their catamaran install their new bifacial . To say we’re envious of their 2250 watt capability is an understatement! We had helped install their arch last month, and now we get to see it all finished - complete with a .

The local came to the marina to do a safety demonstration, and we all got to bring our expired flares to shoot off. Thankfully we’ve never had to use them, so it was good to know what to expect if we ever have to.

We don’t always do on our boat. We’ve been helping our neighbors on their to put up their solar arch. Part of being in the community is helping each other in any way we can, but we also gain knowledge and experience in return. Plus, it’s always fun to hang out with these guys!

It’s always a process to make a boat shipshape. We’re extending our stay in Brunswick, GA to give us time to upgrade our batteries and install solar in the new few months, but in the meantime, we’re taking advantage of the cooler weather and working on other .

We’ve been keeping busy with small projects on Penny Rue, helping out neighbors before Helene came, playing with a corgi puppy (not ours), and getting our electrical system inspected. We’re hoping to finally get solar installed and upgrade to lithium batteries so that we’ll be able to anchor out more often.🤞🏼

We’re back in Georgia and busying ourselves cleaning and fixing things on Penny Rue, and now we’re prepping for Helene. In the meantime, here’s a pic of when we went to with back in Maine. We got to see some of their trolls and we especially liked !

Learning how to navigate our daily lives without has been difficult, and then we found out the first dog we lived with, Jake, had also passed. He was Casey first buddy and we’ll never forget what an amazing dog he was. We hope they’re playing together with all their other friends over the rainbow bridge.

Casey passed away last night, and we are devastated and heartbroken. For 11 years, he brought us so much joy and has made our lives whole. He was incredibly sweet, very smart, always willing to make friends, play, go for a walk, lick your plate clean, and as a herding dog, he loved being surrounded by his people.

We love you so much, Puppy! You were the best dog we could ever ask for and will forever be our good boy. Wherever you are, we hope there’s a lot of love with endless belly rubs and treats. ❤️

Our good friends came to visit us all the way from Ohio on their ! They travel all over the US on their and they happen to be in for the rally. I love that we know people that in so many different ways, and we’re so glad we got to hang out with them again!

Another perk to land life in : Exploring around town and finding cool shops and antiques! We found an Edison Amberola, which is a phonograph that played cylinder shaped records. Unfortunately it won’t fit on Penny Rue 😁

Since we have access to a car while in , we get to go to awesome places like . There are lots of fun shops, restaurants, and it’s by the water. We love our coastal towns!

First order of 2025: finish the bowsprit! It still needs a lot of work, but sometimes it’s nice to appreciate the little things like a new caulking gun. Definitely a must for thickened epoxy! #boatproject #boatlife

2024 was a hard one with a lot of losses, but on the bright side, it was our first year with Penny Rue, we traveled along new places like the Gulf Coast and Okeechobee Waterway, and we got to spend time with family and friends. We’re looking forward to the New Year and we hope 2025 will be a great one. #HappyNewYear

They say the two happiest moments for a boat owner is when you buy it, and then again when you sell it. Our last time operating our #sailboat, Jiji, was more bittersweet as we’re still emotionally very attached. However, we know the soon-to-be owners will take good care of her and we hope she’ll take them on some amazing adventures!

Getting a visit from a #manatee will always make our day. Love these gentle #seacows!

#boatlife with a #pet can be challenging - we’re always making sure where we’re going is pet accessible/friendly/safe, that we have enough of his provisions or at a place where we can get some if needed, and that he’s happy and healthy. After this past weekend’s seizure scare and #caseythecorgi ‘s new diagnosis with #epilepsy, we now have to consider being able to access vet care if necessary or for refills of his prescription medication. It’s ok though - we’re taking this in stride just like he is because being able to live the #cruisinglife with him is absolutely worth it. #corgi #firstmate #seniordog #epidog
