Buckeye Fans and Friends,

Please join us next Monday evening at Island Wings Company Bar and Grill, located in the Market Square area, to cheer the Bucks on as National Champions. We have rented a private room there containing two very large TVs. We can both watch and listen to the TV broadcast. You can learn more about the Island Wings dinner menu, location directions at https://www.islandwing.com/locations/tallahassee-fl/

The Bucks will take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in this contest, Monday January 20 at 7:30 PM. They have risen from the ashes of November's Michigan game to achieving three straight wins against top ten teams in order to be thrust into college football's first 12 team playoff National Championship game.

Notre Dame is led by Coach Marcus Freeman, former OSU linebacker. The teams have played each other twice in the past two years with OSU prevailing in each hard fought contest. OSU is a 10 point favorite but Notre Dame sports a stingy defense which could spell trouble for OSU.

PLEASE RSVP REPLY TO THIS EMAIL,TEXT OR CALL ME AT THE NUMBER BELOW BY NOON Monday January 20 IF YOU ARE ATTENDING, so that we may better prepare for the number of OSU fans attending.

Go Bucks!

"The more things change, the more they stay the same..." (quoting 1849 French writer Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr)

Despite drastic changes in college football--a new 12 team playoff, NIL pay for players, conference realignment, players changing teams through a prolific portal, etc. we still will encounter a contest with national championship aspirations between Midwest and West Coast powerhouses playing in the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day.

In an historic rematch, the nationally ranked number 6 Buckeyes take on the undefeated and number 1 Oregon Ducks in Pasadena on January 1, 2025. Kickoff is at 5:00 PM Eastern time.

The game will be carried on ESPN, locally Comcast HD channel 403 or SD channel 8. In addition, ESPN2 HD Channel 404 and SD channel 30 will broadcast what they call "Field Pass" coverage with the Pat McAfee Show offering free flow commentary of the game. Both can be seen on streaming services that offer ESPN and ESPN2. Some Internet sites indicate that the game will also be carried on ABC (HD channel 431, SD channel 7). However, my check of the local Comcast lineup on New Year's Day does not list the game.
I am unsure that you can listen to the game on the Internet radio site of local Columbus station “97.1 The Fan." Some of these Internet radio post season games are blocked by the TV networks. However, the Internet station did carry the recent OSU/Tennessee broadcast so perhaps it will also carry this one too.

The Bucks are a 20 point favorite in this one, although Marshall sports a potent offense which should test OSU's stingy defense.

Look forward to seeing everyone this Saturday!

Ohio State vs. Western Michigan, 7:30 PM, Saturday, September 7, 2024, BTN Network.

Buckeye Fans and Friends,

The Buckeyes play their second game of the season hosting MAC Conference opponent Western Michigan.

The Bucks are a heavily favored by 38 points which should provide a second "practice" before taking on some more substantial opponents as the season progresses. The following week the Bucks are not playing, enjoying instead an unusual early "bye week."

The game will be carried on The Big Ten Network (BTN), locally Comcast HD channel 1313 or SD channel 742 . It can also be seen on streaming services that offer BTN.
In addition, you can listen to the game on the Internet radio site of local Columbus station “97.1 The Fan” wherein pregame broadcasts for 7:30 home games begin at 2:00 PM and post game broadcasts continue until several hours after the game’s conclusion. An extra bonus this year as the radio broadcasts of the first four hours of the pregame broadcasts from its location outside Ohio Stadium are also carried by video on YouTube, giving the viewer a little extra pregame experience.

Buckeye Fans and Friends,

The Buckeyes play their first game of the season hosting in-state opponent Akron. Two time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin will dot the “i” when the band takes the field Saturday

The Bucks are a heavily favored in this and next week's game against Western Michigan which should provide much needed "practice" before taking on some more substantial opponents as the season progresses.

Hopes are high this year as the Bucks are loaded with talent having recruited well and many of last year’s stars returned for another season hoping to achieve the “unfinished business” of beating rival Michigan and pursuing a national championship.

In my view the only question marks are the play of the offensive line and of a new starting quarterback.

The game will be carried on CBS, locally Comcast HD channel 433 or SD channel 9. It can also be seen on streaming services that offer CBS. If you have an antenna, the game can be viewed on channel 6.1.
In addition, you can listen to the game on the Internet radio site of local Columbus station “97.1 The Fan” wherein pre-game broadcasts for 3:30 home games begin at 10 AM and post game broadcasts continue until several hours after the game’s conclusion.

I hope to have several gatherings to watch games this year as we have done in the past. We usually do not know the game starting times until a week or two before-hand, so stay tuned.

Go Bucks!

Buckeye Fans and Friends,

This week the Buckeyes play their third of an initial five game home series. The University is celebrating Ohio Stadium's 100th anniversary of its opening in 1922.

Kickoff is set for 7 PM EDT, Saturday, September 17, 2022 on the Fox channel.

OSU hosts in-state opponent, the Toledo Rockets. Both teams have won their first two games but the Bucks are currently 34-point favorites in this one. The last time the two teams played each other in 2011 Toledo nearly upset the Buckeyes.

The nationally televised game is being carried in Tallahassee on The Fox Network Comcast HD channels 434 or 1041 & SD channel 10. Those having a TV antenna can likely view the game on ETWC channel 40-2. The game may also be seen on streaming services that offer the Fox Network. You can listen to the game on the Internet radio site of local Columbus station “97.1 The Fan” wherein pre-game broadcasts for the game begin several hours before kickoff and post game broadcasts last until several hours after the game’s conclusion.

SAVE THE DATE: As our group gathered before the Pandemic, we have planned a gathering at the Hobbit American Grill-East 400 Capital Circle SE to watch the OSU vs Wisconsin game at 7:30 PM on 9/24/22. Details will be forthcoming soon. See: https://g.co/kgs/pi9Vng

Buckeye Fans and Friends,

After a hard fought win against Notre Dame last Saturday, the Buckeyes play their second of an initial five game home streak in Ohio Stadium.

Kickoff is set for noon EDT, Saturday, September 10, 2022.

OSU hosts the Arkansas State Red Wolves in the first-ever match-up between the two schools. The Red Wolves QB is none other than former FSU QB James Blackman. Also now playing for the Red Wolves is former 5 star OSU running-back and Florida Selffner High grad Brian Snead, dismissed from OSU in 2018 for disciplinary reasons.

The nationally televised game is being carried in Tallahassee on The Big 10 Network (BTN) Comcast HD channel 1313. It is also being streamed on FUBO TV as well as other streaming services that offer BTN. You can listen to the game on the Internet radio site of local Columbus station “97.1 The Fan” wherein pre-game broadcasts for noon home games begin as early as 6:30 A.M. and last until several hours after the game’s conclusion.

I just returned from Ohio and the Notre Dame game of last week. I plant to address the subject of our first gathering in 2 years this coming week and will let everyone know when and where it will be.

Buckeye Fans and Friends,

After a tough win at home against Penn State, the nationally ranked number 5 Buckeyes return to action traveling to Lincoln, NB to take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers this Saturday, November 6, 2021. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 Noon.

While Nebraska's record this year stands at 3 wins and 5 losses, of Nebraska's last five losses, four were by less than 7 points against teams included in the first playoff rankings: No. 3 Michigan State, No. 7 Michigan, No. 8 Oklahoma and No. 20 Minnesota. Thus, the Bucks must be wary of this being a so called "trap game."

The nationally televised game is being carried in Tallahassee on The Fox Network Comcast ETWC HD channel 434. If you have an over the air TV antenna, I believe, but am not completely certain, it will be carried on ETWC digital channel 40-2, which is the old analog channel Fox 49. You can also listen to the game on the Internet radio site of local Columbus station “97.1 The Fan” wherein broadcasts for noon games begin several hours early and last until several hours after the game’s conclusion.

As I advised in the past, due to the continuing COVID situation, I have not scheduled any game watching parties locally. Hopefully as the season progresses perhaps we can schedule a gathering.

Buckeye Fans and Friends,
The Buckeyes return to the confines of Ohio Stadium this Saturday, October 9 for a 12:00 noon EST game against Maryland.

Although both teams have identical 4-1 records, OSU is favored by 21 points.

Ohio State appears to have solved some of its defensive woes over the past several games, albeit against weaker opponents. Let’s hope the Buckeye’s young defense has improved to the point that it will limit stronger opponents to a lot less scoring.

Buckeye fans and Friends,

The Buckeyes play their final non conference home game this Saturday, September 25 in prime time at 7:30 PM EST against the Akron Zips.

Akron is currently 1-2 with its only win last week against Bryant 35-14. Akron's two losses this year were to Auburn and Temple.

Ohio State is a 48 point favorite in this one, although OSU has yet to cover the spread in any of its previous games this year.

The Buckeyes bounced back after their loss two weeks ago by beating Tulsa this past Saturday 41 to 20. That game was much closer than the score indicates. The Bucks defense showed some improvement over the Oregon loss, but still allowed Tulsa to run up over 500 yards of offense against it..

One very bright note against Tulsa was the performance of Ohio State's freshman running back sensation TreVeyon Henderson who rushed for 277 yards, breaking the OSU single game record for a freshman running back set by Archie Griffin 49 years ago. If he stays healthy, my prediction is a Heisman Trophy for this player in coming years before he leaves OSU.

The nationally televised game is being carried in Tallahassee on The Big Ten Network (BTN) Comcast HD channel 1313, SD channel 742. You can also listen to the game on the Internet radio site of local Columbus station “97.1 The Fan.” For home games, the pre-game broadcast begins approximately 5 hours before kickoff. "The Fan's" post game commentary and interviews usually last an hour or so after a late night game.

As I advised in the past, due to the continuing COVID situation, I have not scheduled any game watching parties locally. Hopefully as the season progresses perhaps we can schedule a gathering.

Buckeye fans and Friends,

After a disappointing home opening loss to Oregon last week, the nationally 9th ranked Buckeyes play again at home this Saturday, September 18 at 3:30 PM EST against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane.

Tulsa is coming off a close loss last week to number 22 ranked Oklahoma State. Tulsa actually outperformed Oklahoma State in total yardage and time of possession but did not have enough to win the game.

The Buckeyes sit at 1-1 nursing wounds and psyche after a dismal defensive showing loss in their home opener last week. In the recent past the Bucks' high powered offense covered up the defense by outscoring opponents. However, despite rolling up 612 yards of offense last week, they did not get into the end zone enough to win.

The game is being carried in Tallahassee on Fox Sports 1, Comcast HD channel 450 (FS-1). You can also listen to the game on the Internet radio site of local Columbus station “97.1 The Fan.” For home games such as this, the pre-game broadcast begins approximately 5 hours before kickoff. "The Fan's" post game commentary and interviews usually last several hours after the game.

As I advised in past posts, due to the continuing COVID situation, I have not scheduled any game watching parties locally. Hopefully as the season progresses perhaps we can schedule a gathering.

Buckeye fans and Friends,

The nationally 4th ranked Buckeyes return to the confines of Ohio Stadium this Saturday, September 11th at noon EST for their home opener against the 11th ranked Oregon Ducks.

The nationally televised game is being carried in Tallahassee on the Fox Network, Comcast HD channel 434. If you have an over the air TV antenna it may be carried on ETWC digital channel 40-2. You can also listen to the game on the Internet radio site of local Columbus station “97.1 The Fan.” For home games such as this the pre-game broadcast begins at 6:30 AM EST. "The Fan's" post game commentary and interviews usually last several hours after the game.

Like OSU's opening game last week, Oregon had a shaky start against Fresno State, but finally prevailed. OSU sports a very potent offense, but its defensive prowess is still questionable. Oregon ranked in the top half of their league last year in just about every category of defense, so taking on the Buck's highly touted offense will make for an interesting match-up.

As I advised last week, due to the continuing COVID situation, I have not scheduled any game watching parties locally. Hopefully as the season progresses perhaps we can schedule a gathering.

Ohio State vs Minnesota Football, THURSDAY September 2, 2021,
8 PM EST, Fox Channel

Buckeye fans and Friends,

Hard to believe we are just days away from the start of the college football season. This year with fans in the stands!

In an unusual scheduling event, the Buckeyes begin their season opener with a conference game, an away game and a THURSDAY NIGHT game as they take on the Minnesota Gophers at Minnesota’s home field in Minneapolis at 8 PM, Thursday evening September 2, 2021.

The nationally televised game is being carried in Tallahassee on the Fox Network, Comcast HD channel 434. If you have an over the air TV antenna I believe, but am not completely certain, it will be carried on ETWC digital channel 40-2, which is the old analog channel Fox 49. You can also listen to the game on the Internet radio site of local Columbus station “97.1 The Fan.”

While OSU is favored, Minnesota has the edge in experience as they have 22 starters returning from last year, the second highest percentage of returning starters in the league.

OSU is very strong on both their offensive and defensive lines and have the best receiving corps in school history. They also have four highly touted 4- or 5-star quarterbacks coming out of high school, but the downside is that none of those QBs has ever thrown a pass in a college game. There is also a question of how much improved last year’s inexperienced defensive backfield will be.

Due to the continuing COVID situation, I have not scheduled any game watching parties locally. Hopefully as the season progresses perhaps we can schedule a gathering.

Buckeye Fans and Friends,

Who would have thought in this abbreviated pandemic season that the OSU/Indiana football game would be between two nationally top ten unbeaten teams fighting for control of the Big Ten Eastern Division.

That's the case as surprising Indiana has not lost a game due in part to sporting a tough defense to compliment its traditionally potent offense.

OSU is hosting the Hoosiers in fan-less Ohio Stadium. Apparently even parents of the players are not allowed to attend the game due to local pandemic regulations.

Fortunately for us fans, the game is again being carried on TV over the Fox Network, local Comcast SD channel 10, HD channel 434. You can also listen to the radio broadcast by streaming 97.1 “The Fan” on your phone or computer. In fact, as I’ve indicated previously, it is fun to attempt to sync the radio with the TV broadcast because the radio announcers are excellent and provide much more in-depth and hometown. coverage. That radio station also has extensive pregame and post game coverage which includes coaches and players interviews from both teams.

The FSU home game against powerful Clemson is also being played at noon on the ABC TV Network so there is a conflict which may require some split screen or channel surfing.

Ohio State Maryland Game Cancelled

Maryland has paused all team-related activities in its football program after an outbreak of COVID-19, canceling this weekend’s game against Ohio State.

It is unfortunate that OSU has now lost one opportunity to better make its case for playing in the National Championship. Instead of playing 9 total games they will only play 8. Let's hope that the virus does not strike OSU or any of its future opponents again. It remains to be seen how many games not played would deny them a place in the final four National Championship picture.

OSU is scheduled to play at home against undefeated and 10th ranked Indiana on November 21 at noon on the Fox Network. An OSU win in that game, if played, will go a long way toward solidifying OSU's chances of playing in the Big 10 Championship game on December 19.

Let's hope for the best,

Go Bucks!

Jim

11/03/2020

Buckeye fans and friends,

The Bucks return to the confines of Ohio Stadium after a convincing win at Penn St. to take on the improved Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

Kickoff is set for this Saturday at 7:30 PM EST on the Big 10 Network (BTN), local Comcast HD channel 1313, SD channel 742.

Rutgers is much improved having recently hired former OSU assistant Greg Schiano as head coach. Rutgers beat Michigan State in its first game of the year but lost its second game to Indiana last week. Michigan St. knocked off Michigan the following week. Whether Schiano's special inside experience with Ohio State will give the 37 point underdog Rutgers some advantage this weekend remains to be seen.

FSU hosts Pittsburgh at 4 PM EST on the ACC Network so there is no conflict.

Go Bucks!

Jim

10/29/2020

Buckeye fans and friends,

At 7:30 PM EST this coming Saturday, the Bucks travel to Happy Valley to take on the Penn St. Nittany Lions in a match-up that is crucial in winning the Big 10 Eastern Division Championship. The good news for the Bucks is no fans in the stands for PSU's traditional fan's rowdy "white out" designed to intimidate opposing teams. The bad news is that the Lions lost a heartbreaking, last second overtime, controversial called game to Indiana last week.

Penn St. ran up a whopping 480 yards of offense to Indiana's meager 211 yards and yet lost the game. The point, if PSU eliminates costly mistakes, they have a potent offense and a good enough defense to pull an upset. Not only that, PSU is mad and hungry to keep from going 0 and 2, essentially eliminating them from winning the Big 10 East Division.

The game is being carried nationally in prime-time on ABC, locally in Tallahassee, Comcast channel 431 HD and channel 7 SD. Also locally, if you have an over-the-air antenna, the game can be seen on WTXL Channel 27.1.

FSU does not play this weekend so there is no conflict.

Stay safe and Go Bucks!
