🚨 BREAKING NEWS IN THE ACC v. FSU CASE! 🚨

The 1DCA has denied ACC's petition for writ of cert. challenging trial court's denial of priority-based stay pending resolution of ACC's N.C. action.

Trial court properly found that ACC's N.C. action was an anticipatory filing, which may constitute a special, additional, exceptional, or extraordinary circumstance justifying the denial of a priority-based stay.

Happy National Paralegal Day to all the hardworking Florida paralegals who both subscribe to FLW *and* are oftentimes the ones pouring through our issues to help the law firms and lawyers they work with!

Today, we celebrate ALL paralegals who play a vital role in the legal field, ensuring justice and efficiency behind the scenes. Your dedication does not go unnoticed! πŸ‘Š βš–οΈ

As far back as the early 1970s, interest was stirred about the need for an organized group of paralegals and legal assistants. This challenging job involves preparing and copying boatloads of legal documents like wills, real estate closings, affidavits and more, as well as assisting attorneys with cases and trial prep and working with clients. In 1973, the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA) produced a series of seminars and workshops for people who helped lawyers in law offices. Eventually, the National Federation of Paralegal Associations () brought in about 15 other member organizations, established a code of ethics for paralegals and created a task force on credentialing criteria. Today, the NFPA is comprised of 50 member organizations and 9,000 individual members.

In observance of the Jewish New Year - Rosh Hashanah - The Florida Law Weekly offices in Tallahassee will be closed on Thursday, Oct. 3.

Rosh Hashanah begins at sundown tonight and ends at nightfall on Friday, Oct. 4. It is often celebrated by hearing the sounding of the shofar, made of a ram's horn, and Jewish communities gather at synagogues for prayer service. It is also celebrated by lighting candles each evening, festive holiday meals, and a special repentance prayer recited near bodies of water known as Tashlich. The traditional greeting, β€œHave a good and sweet New Year,” is also used.

Rosh Hashanah marks the beginning of the Jewish High Holy Days leading up to Yom Kippur, the Jewish day of atonement and the holiest day of the Jewish calendar.

Wishing all of our members in the Florida legal community who celebrate a blessed and happy Rosh Hashanah. πŸ•Ž

FLW will reopen Friday, Oct. 4, at 9 am.

Last month, the Florida Law Weekly street team went to Orlando and attended The Florida Bar Voluntary Bar Leaders Conference in Orlando as a sponsor AND - for the first time - a featured speaker!

We met so many terrific folks from the Florida legal community and made some great connections once again. And having Account Manager Matthew Crumbaker speak on a VBLC panel - from a sponsors' point of view - about what sponsors look for out of events like these was just extra credit!

Shoutout to FLW Account Managers Jamie Sevor and Jim Willebrink for attending as well - and Jim even helped present our gift basket to the raffle winner after Jamie helped pack it with Tallahassee-centric goodies!

And lastly, thanks to The Florida Bar Voluntary Bar Director Jeff Doran for the invite and opportunity to sponsor! Always a top-notch event, and we can't wait to come back next year!

In the meantime, if you want to reach out to us about a future sponsorship spotlight at your Florida voluntary bar? Shoot us an email at: [email protected]

πŸ–Œ βš–οΈ FLORIDA LAW WEEKLY FACELIFT UPDATE! πŸ–Œ βš–οΈ

A couple of weeks ago, we told you about a little renovation project we had going on here at Florida Law Weekly headquarters in Tallahassee.

It wasn't by choice initially - see: major Tallahassee flooding 3 months ago that damaged our 45 year-old offices - but after seeing the finished product come together, we are kinda glad Mother Nature forced our hand!

Shoutout to the crew at Fresh Start Painting - locally owned and operated in Tallahassee by our man Louis (the bearded dude!) - for an INCREDIBLE job done! Not only did they finish ahead of schedule, but their attention to detail was remarkable, and our offices have never looked better!

We highly recommend them!

And thanks to all of our loyal FLW subscribers for ... well ... being around for all these years! Even with our offices flooded, we never missed a print day or failed to get an issue out!
