Good afternoon Tally & Wakulla! So obviously you’ve seen our posts, but how does our business actually work?

It’s pretty simple. You just gather all your memories into a box, give it to us, and we turn them into a digital format that you can easily share or give as a gift!

Storytime: This past week we completed two orders for clients who had been scammed by a large national company.

One client was told that her videos were damaged and couldn’t even be played. That was a lie. They converted just fine with no issues!

The second client had sent in 10 large film reels only to receive them back so poorly digitized that they couldn’t even be watched! I will admit that the reels were difficult and took MANY hours, but we got the job done.

PSA: Hurricane Helene has left many families in Florida facing the heartbreaking loss of cherished memories stored on videotapes and photos.

If this applies to you, I’m so sorry. Hopefully this information can be of use.

1) VHS tapes: Water damaged tapes can still be salvaged. They will likely need to be cleaned, but this can certainly be done.

2) 8mm & 16mm film reels: Reels will likely need to be cleaned, but can usually be salvaged as well.

3) Printed photos: Photos provide the most issues, but all is not necessary lost! All photos should be separated while still damp if possible and allowed to dry not touching other photos to prevent sticking.

4) Color slides: Depending on the level of water damage, slides are typically more likely able to be salvaged than printed photos and should be allowed to dry as quickly as possible.

NEW SERVICE ADDED!

Heritage Helper can now process and digitize 16mm film reels! There are only a handful of companies in the Panhandle that can digitize 16mm and several charge an outrageous amount to digitize.

This week we digitized 16mm film shot from a World War II cockpit by our client’s grandfather. Amazing!

We like to keep our services as affordable as possible and so our prices are the same as we charge for 8mm film.

We can do BOTH silent and SOUND 16mm film !

Don’t make this mistake!!!

A repeat customer gave us her 8mm film that she had previously sent to another company but had been returned with choppy, unwatchable footage. I told her not to fear, I could get the job done, and am now pleased to report that her memories can now be viewed smoothly for generations to come. Don’t get me wrong, this was tricky to do, but I think the issue was that the other company had spliced all her reels together without her permission and was causing the footage to malfunction!! Unacceptable. Heritage Helper will always return your original videos in the same condition or better.

Storytime: Last month we were approached by a lady whose dog had eaten her wedding video tape shortly after they got married almost 27 years ago. She was hoping we could save it and make a digital copy if so. Two hours later we had a perfect digital version of her tape which she can share and enjoy with family for years to come! It was a perfect 27th anniversary gift to share with her husband ☺️

If your VHS tapes look like this - covered in mold - then you absolutely need a professional to clean your tapes before they can be properly digitized. If a tape needs cleaning, Heritage Helper does it for free! Many companies won’t even touch moldy tapes, let alone clean them. Mold on tapes is very common in a humid state like Florida, but thankfully the damage can usually be reversed. 📼

Storytime: This week I met up with a client who, as he had me this tape, shook two enormous dust bunnies out of it. We both laughed at how dirty it was. When I got home, in order to play the tape, I actually had to take it apart, clean the plastic shell AND the film. We did this all at no added charge. A lot of times people don’t realize how much can be necessary in the digitization process! Our goal is to make sure you get the best quality possible for your special memories and treat you like family! 🎆

NEW SERVICE! In the excitement of the release of our WCTV interview, we almost forgot to mention that we now have the ability to convert Betamax tapes to digital! Betamax are typically older than VHS tapes, but captured with a higher quality image. Throughout this process, we’ve realized that unlike a VCR, a fully functional Beta player is very hard to lay hands on! It took four tries 😂
