Please help the Sheriff's office by donating to this worthy cause for K-9 Dogs. Broken Arrow MC Horizon is doing a fundraiser - money will go toward a K9 ballistic vest. Currently Kern County sheriff office has 4 dogs two need replacement vests and they are getting a 5th dog in 2weeks who does not have a vest yet. Each custom fit vests runs $3000-3500

Center Street building fully engulfed in fire. Suspected arson fire. Kern County Fire responding. Person of interest may have been identified. Not in custody.

Meet Hailee Lopez organizer of the Taft Black Lives Matter March on Saturday. She is from Taft and attended Taft Union High School, graduated from Taft College and attends Cal State Bakersfield where she is studying to work in special education. Hailee spent a few minutes with the Taft Independent to discuss why she organized the march on Saturday.

What goes up....Demolition continues on former Holmes building Demolition continues for a third day on the former Holmes building located at the corner of 6th and Main Street in Taft this morning. The building was donated to the city by local oilman Fred Holmes to make way for future redevelopment.
