Nyoka alikuwa mwerevu kuliko wanyama wote wa porini aliowafanya Bwana Mungu. Akamwambia mwanamke, "Ati, Mungu amesema: 'Msile matunda ya miti yote ya bustani'?" Mwanamke akamjibu nyoka, "Twaweza kula matunda ya bustani. Walakini matunda ya mti ule ulioko katikati ya bustani, Mungu amesema, Msile, wala msiyaguse; mkila mtakufa.'" Nyoka akamwambia mwanamke, "Hakika hamtakufa! Lakini Mungu anajua ya kuwa, siku mtakapokula matunda ya mti huo, macho yenu yatafumbuka, nanyi mtakuwa k**a Mungu, mkijua mema na mabaya." Mwanamke akaona ule mti ni mzuri wa kuliwa, tena wapendeza macho, nao ni mti wa kutamanika ili kupata ujuzi. akatwaa tunda lake akala. Akampa na mume wake aliyekuwa pamoja naye, naye akala. Hapo macho yao wote wawili yakafumbuka, wakajitambua kuwa uchi; wakashona majani ya mtini, wakatengeneza mavazi ya kujifunga viunoni. Wakasikia kishindo cha Bwana Mungu akitembea bustanini wakati wa upepo wa mchana, nao mtu na mkewe wakajificha kati ya miti ya bustani, Bwana asipate kuwaona.

The serpent was more subtle than any other wild creature that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree of the garden’?” And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden; but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.”’ But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not die. Jesũ agĩcooka akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Nĩ ũndũ wa ũguo wacookia-rĩ, wĩthiĩre; ndaimono nĩyoima thĩinĩ wa mwarĩguo.”
Mũtumia ũcio akĩinũka mũciĩ agĩkora kaana gake gakomete ũrĩrĩ-inĩ na ndaimono ĩrĩkĩtie gũthiĩ.

Mtu akawaita majina yao wanyama wote wa kufugwa, ndege wa angani na wanyama wa porini; lakini hakuonekana msaada wa mtu wenye kufanana naye. Hapo Bwana Mungu alimtia mtu usingizi mzito, naye akalala. Halafu akatwaa ubavu wake mmoja, akatia nyama mahali pake. Bwana Mungu akaufanya ubavu alioutwaa katika mtu kuwa mwanamke, akamleta kwa mtu. Hapo mtu akasema: "Sasa, huyu ni mfupa kutoka mifupa yangu na nyama kutoka nyama yangu: Huyu ataitwa 'Mwanamke,' maana ametwalia kwa mwanaume." The man gave names to all cattle, and to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for the man there was not found a helper fit for him. So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall’ upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh; and the rib which the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” Therefore a man leaves his father and his mother and clings to his wife, and they become one flesh. Siku ile Bwana Mungu alipoziumba nchi na mbingu, hapakuwapo bado na mti wowote wa pori katika nchi, wala majani yoyote ya shamba hayajatokea, kwa maana Bwana Mungu hajanyesha mvua katika nchi, wala hapakuwa bado na mtu wa kulima udongo. Lakini mto ukatokea katika nchi, ulete maji juu ya uso wote wa udongo. Halafu Bwana Mungu alimfinyanga mtu kwa matope ya udongo, akampulizia puani pumzi ya uzima; mtu akawa kiumbe chenye uzima. At that time: When the Pharisees gathered together to Jesus, with some of the scribes, who had come from Jerusalem, they saw that some of his disciples ate with hands defiled, that is, unwashed. (For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, do not eat unless they wash their hands, observing the tradition of the elders; and when they come from the market place, they do not eat unless they purify themselves ; there are many other traditions which they observe, the washing of cups and pots and vessels of bronze.) And the Pharisees and the scribes asked him, “Why do your disciples not live according to the tradition of the elders, but eat with hands defiled?” And he said to them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, ‘This people honours me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the precepts of men. ’ You leave the commandment of God, and hold fast the tradition of men.” And he said to them, “You have a fine way of rejecting the commandment of God, in order to keep your tradition! For Moses said, ‘Honour your father and your mother'; and ‘He who speaks evil of father or mother, let him surely die’; but you say, ‘If a man tells his father or his mother, What you would have gained from me is Corban’ (that is, given to God) — then you no longer permit him to do anything for his father or mother, thus making void the word of God through your tradition which you hand on. And many such things you do.”

Mungu akasema: "Maji yajazwe na wingi wa viumbe vyenye uzima, na ndege waruke juu ya nchi katika anga la mbingu." Mungu akaumba wanyama wakubwa wa baharini, na viumbe vyote vyenye uzima vinavyotembea na kujaa majini, namna kwa namna. Naye Mungu akaona hayo ni mema. Mungu akavibariki, akisema, "Zaeni, ongezekeni, mkayajaze maji ya baharini; ndege waongezeke katika nchi." Ikawa jioni, ikawa asubuhi, — ndiyo siku ya tano. Mungu akasema, "Mimi nawapa ninyi mimea yote yenye kuzaa mbegu, iliyo juu ya nchi nzima, na miti yote inayotoa matunda yenye mbegu: hayo yatakuwa chakula chenu. Na wanyama wote wa porini, na ndege wa angani, na wote wanaotembea juu ya nchi, wote walio na uzima, nawapa majani yote ya mimea yawe chakula Chao." Ikawa hivyo. Mungu akaona yote aliyoyafanya: hayo yalikuwa mema sana. Ikawa jioni, ikawa asubuhi — ndiyo siku ya sita. Ndivyo mbingu na nchi zilivyomalizika, pamoja na jeshi lake lote. Na siku ya saba Mungu alihitimisha kazi aliyoifanya, na siku ya saba akapumzika. Mungu akaibariki siku ya saba, akaifanya takatifu, kwa maana ndipo alipopumzika baada ya kazi yake ya kuumba vyote. Basi huo ndio mwanzo, mbingu na nchi zilipoumbwa.

Wakati ule: Mafarisayo na badhi ya waandishi waliokuwa wamefika toka Yerusalemu walikusanyika kwake. Waliona kwamba baadhi ya wafuasi wake walikuwa wanakula mikate kwa mikono najisi, yaani pasipo kutawadha. Kwa maana Mafarisayo na Wayahudi wote walishika sana desturi ya wazee wao wala hawakula kitu kabla ya kunawa mikono. Tena wakitoka sokoni, hawali kitu isipokuwa wanatawadha kwanza. Kuna pia desturi nyingine walizozipokea toka zamani k**a kuosha vikombe na sufuria na sahani za shaba na vitanda, kwa hiyo Mafarisayo na Waandishi walimwuliza, "Mbona wafuasi wako hawajali desturi tulizozipokea kwa wazee, bali hula chakula kwa mikono najisi?" Akawajibu, "Enyi wanafiki, ni ninyi aliowataja Isaya katika uaguzi wake alipoandika: 'Watu hawa huniheshimu kwa midomo, lakini mioyo yao iko mbali nami; wananiabudu bure, mafundisho wanayoyafundisha ni amri ya wanadamu tu.' Amri ya Mungu mnaiacha, na kuyashikilia mapokeo ya wanadamu." Akaendelea kusema, "Vema mwaitangua amri ya Mungu mpate kuyashika mapokeo yenu! Maana Musa alisema, 'Waheshimu baba na mama,' tena 'anayemlaani baba au mama, sharti afe.' Bali ninyi husema, 'Mtu akimwambia baba au mama, 'Yoyote kati ya mali yangu ifaayo kukusaidieni ni qorban (yaani imewekwa wakfu), basi, toka pale mnajiondolea wajibu wa kuwasaidia baba na mama zenu. Hivyo, mnalitangua neno la Mungu kwa ajili ya desturi za mapokeo yenu. Mambo mengi k**a hayo mwafanya."
