For Chrishawn Hunter, lacrosse is more than just a sport. After losing his mother at a young
age and being raised by his grandmother in the inner city of Rochester, playing lacrosse
became a huge part of his life. It gave him motivation, helped him overcome adversity, and
allowed him to find a sense of belonging. Through RocE6, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that
provides access to lacrosse equipment and coaching for low-income families, Chrishawn
was able to develop his skills and received a scholarship to play D1 Lacrosse at Syracuse
University. Giving back to his community is a driving force in Chrishawn’s life, and he
hopes to have another RocE6 graduate follow in his footsteps in the future.
