Benjamin Franklin helped to establish the first public hospital and the first hospital pharmacy.

Scientist, printer, inventor: Founding Father Benjamin Franklin’s influence spans almost every area—including pharmacy and public health. In addition to his well-known inventions and experiments, Benjamin Franklin was instrumental in creating the United States’ first public hospital and the first hospital pharmacy, although it was then called the hospital apothecary. Philadelphia Hospital was among Franklin’s civic contributions, and it was made possible because of his influence and business acumen.

Fun Fact!
Coca-Cola was invented by a pharmacist.
In 1886, pharmacist John S. Pemberton created Coca-Cola as a treatment for most common ailments. His bookkeeper, Frank Robinson, names the drink and writes it down in the loopy, flowing handwriting that became known as the brand’s logo. The drink was based on co***ne from the coca leaf and caffeinated extracts from a kola nut – hence the name, Coca-Cola. Co***ne was removed from the recipes in 1903. Pemberton sold his syrup to Atlanta soda fountains, and the rest is history. 💊
