On August 24, 2022, the DeKalb Police Department responded to 919 Ridge Drive for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, a victim was located near the parking lot with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. Responding officers provided CPR and the victim was transported to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The victim is an 18-year-old male who resided at 919 Ridge Drive.

Investigators were able to identify a suspect, who had left the area in a vehicle. This morning, the Chicago Police Department located the suspect and he was arrested and detained.

Formal charges of first degree murder are pending against the offender through the State’s Attorney’s Office:

On August 22, 2022, the DeKalb Police Department responded to the 800 block of South 8th Street for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, a juvenile victim was located with an apparent gunshot wound to his back. The victim was able to provide officers with the names and descriptions of his assailants.

A witness to the shooting was able to pursue the offenders on foot and pull a backpack off one of the offender’s back. A subsequent search of the area by DeKalb Police Department led to the arrest of the two (2) offenders, and the recovery of a 12-gauge shotgun from the aforementioned backpack.

The victim is recovering from the injuries sustained in the incident.

The two suspects have been detained with formal charges pending through the State’s Attorney’s Office. Their names are not able to be released due to being juveniles:

Juvenile #1: M/W/13 years of age from DeKalb, Illinois
Juvenile #2: M/W/14 years of age from DeKalb, Illinois
