Emanuel County received 3 or more inches of snow accumulation overnight and the roads pose a hazard to our team and customers. Our parking lot and steps also pose a slip and fall hazard. Therefore, The Citizens Bank of Swainsboro will be closing today, January 22 and plan to reopen tomorrow, January 23 with our normal banking hours, subject to road conditions permitting.

Weather Update from Emanuel County Schools
After careful monitoring of the incoming weather conditions, we have made the following adjustments to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and community:

On Tuesday, January 21, all schools will dismiss early to allow buses to be off the roads ahead of the incoming weather.

-11:50 AM- Pre-K/ELC
-12:00 PM - Special Education Bus Students/Alternative School/RiverQuest
-12:15 PM - Primary and Elementary Schools
-12:30 PM - Middle and High School Students

We will be closed to students and staff on Wednesday, January 22.

All extracurricular activities and events on January 21 and January 22 are cancelled.

We will resume all normal school schedules and activities on Thursday, January 23. Any school updates will be communicated through our page and website.

EGSC Update from President Schecter:

The Swainsboro campus will move to all remote work except for essential employees for Tuesday, January 21 and Wednesday, January 22. This means all faculty should move their classes to an online format for these two days and all staff should be working regular hours and be available to their colleagues and students during those two days.

As always in emergency management situations, Statesboro and Augusta locations will follow guidance issued by those respective schools (Georgia Southern & Augusta University).

Students, if you are away from campus today, we urge you to stay put and not travel to campus until conditions improve late Wednesday. Those students already on campus, we encourage you to return home, if you are able. If you are enroute to campus, there will be access to the dorms and dining services through Tuesday and Wednesday, but no guests will be allowed in the dorms over those two days. Any student traveling should ensure they have a full tank of gas before hitting the road, as access to fuel could be jeopardized this week, as we saw with the September hurricane. All students should look for communications from their faculty on how their classes will be handled and attend virtually to keep up with the work assignments.

Please note that road conditions can be hazardous. Keep your electronics fully charged in case of power outages, and let’s show each other grace and care as we get through this latest storm together.

UPDATED!!! FYI!!!

Following the recommendation of the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) related to Hurricane Helene, Emanuel County Schools will have an early release tomorrow (Thursday) and no school on Friday.

Early Release Times are as follows:
11:30 AM - Bus for Special Transportation/Alternative School/RiverQuest
11:35 AM - Pre-K
11:45 AM - Primary and Elementary Schools
12:00 PM - Middle and High School Students
