ICYMI: Dozens of sea turtles are being treated in Surf City at The Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center after they were cold-stunned. Volunteers at the center have been busy helping the animals after the recent bitter cold weather.

Cold-stunned means the turtle become very weak and inactive due to exposure to cold temperatures.

Snowfall numbers are in... on average, 4.5 inches of the white stuff accumulated here in the Greater Topsail area. Regionally, Jacksonville saw the most with 6" reported.

Snow day 2025 at Topsail Island, North Carolina! ❄️

Most of the region got 4 to 6 inches of the white stuff overnight... the first measurable snowfall for us in several years. Temps this morning were around 22 degrees. Enjoy and stay warm!

A residential fire in Jacksonville claimed the life of a Sneads Ferry, NC man on Tuesday. Life-saving measures were attempted on Torence Michael Thomas, 28, but the man was pronounced deceased upon arrival to an area hospital.

NEW TODAY: The new trail would allow hikers, bikers and others to utilize the Mountain-to-the-Sea Trail toward Surf City without having to travel on U.S. 17.

The unpaved trail would be roughly four miles, including a stretch that will be elevated over ecologically important wetlands.

The new trail will allow hikers of the Mountain-to-the-Sea Trail to avoid U.S. 17. But it also could bring more of them in contact with hunters.

The greater Topsail area is expecting freezing temperatures and possible rain overnight Friday, January 10 which may cause icy conditions on our roads, especially for inland locations. Remember, bridges and overpasses freeze first! Please use extra caution on the roads if you must be out tomorrow night.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED: The N.C. Coastal Land Trust said it has met the ambitious goal of raising $8 million to purchase and protect "The Point," a beloved undeveloped piece of oceanfront property at the southern end of Topsail Island, North Carolina.

The N.C. Coastal Land Trust had a March deadline to raise nearly $8 million to purchase the 150-acre oceanfront parcel. So how did they do it?

The planned renovations to the Soundside Park boat ramp have been rescheduled to January 2nd.

The renovations will expand the 78 foot ramp to 92 feet. The ramp’s underwater section will increase from 28 feet at average low tide to approximately 42 feet.

One boat ramp is set to close for about four months.

As November rolls on, days are getting shorter — nights longer as we inch closer to wintertime. Here along the Topsail Island, North Carolina coast, we're still enjoying comfortable fall temps most days. Tonight, much of the inland area is under a "freeze watch", the first of the season. In any case, it is a wonderful time of year here on the island... come see for yourself! 🏖️
