Why a recent business exodus 📈 from Africa should be a wake-up call for multinationals 🤔

For the last decade, Africa has tempted with the promise of immense opportunity. The continent’s rapidly growing youthful **ation, vibrant cultural scenes and of have drawn significant interest from businesses from around the world. So, with all signs pointing to growth for those entering this market, why are many big corporations now leaving the continent?

Unilever closed its manufacturing operations in Nigeria 🇳🇬 in March 2023 in an attempt to maintain profitability. Nestlé also halted production of one of its brands, Nesquik, in South Africa 🇿🇦 last year due to falling demand. Diageo is selling its majority stake in Guinness Nigeria Plc – once heralded as a success story in that market – due to worsening economic conditions and a weakening currency.

The recent exit of these companies, and others, from repeats a familiar pattern; foreign companies doing business in Africa often struggle to navigate local conditions and idiosyncrasies – from corporate oversight to foreign policy and domestic . Aside from creating domestic job losses, such departures can affect confidence. This leads to more tentative local and foreign investment, which in turn can perpetuate a cycle of economic stagnation and foreign dependency.

With the projected to be home to a quarter of the world’s pop**ation by 2050, must rethink current business approaches and operations in Africa to help the region’s economic growth match its potential. African business leaders should learn more about how business is run from Johann Rupert and many businessman like him. 🤞🏿

I've been following the white monopoly capital debate for sometime now and haven't seen anything wrong done by the Rupert family or capitalists in Africa. Looking from a business point of view, black business leaders have failed to copy what this businessman has done to build the empire of Rembrandt or The Rupert Foundation. I've also looked at Aliko Dangote, of Nigeria, (some of business leaders we can gain insight, inspiration and expertise from in Africa include:- NASSEF SAWIRIS, MIKE ADENUGA, ABDULSAMAD RABIU, NAGUIB SAWIRIS, MOHAMED MANSOUR, KOOS BEKKER) and would think that only few leaders like Patrice motsepe have managed to master the art of capitalism. Africa needs capitalist if it would want to see the economy transforming to the growth we would envisaged. The end goal of socialism and communism is capitalism as we have witnessed in Russia's oligarchies, or Chinese billionaires around the globe, Africa will have to grow many capitalists if we want to see a better Africa in 2063. It's black capitalists that will assist in ensuring that and goals are achieved in our lifetime. The platform has created trading opportunities for African businesses to participate in growing their businesses by exchanging goods among themselves, a typical example on how African capitalists can be prompted.

The education system in many African countries needs to be transformed into becoming practical than theoretical. Those that have been educated in socialist principles have to take a lead in convincing us on how the end of communism is achieved as we participate on AfCFTA developments. Many African countries after gaining independence from their colonial masters, did the opposite of what Julius Nyerere was cautioning us about. We never took his teachings seriously, but wanted to get benefits of being politicians while doing business at the same time, that is why many of us became corrupted. As individuals, we are political animals and will always have an affiliation to political games and ideology, but that doesn't mean that we can't survive in the business game by not being card caring member of some political parties. Anton Rupert resigned from being a member of the Afrikaner - erfenis Broederbond and focused on building his business empire. The political environment created a conductive environment for his business, thus later his son, Johann became a successful businessman that is an inspiration to many of us that would want to emulate his teachings. Political leaders have not seperated themselves from taking part in business activities, thus today most African countries are embroiled in corruption.

If in the past 60 years or so, politicians remained in policy formulation and created an environment that is conducive for those in business to operate freely without any interference, Africa would be better positioned as a global participant. The typical example of this is now seen in Nigeria, where the DANGOTE GROUP🔵 is an inspiration in many countries but politicians in Nigeria are interfering in his business empire. We should have listened to the teachings of those who came before us and followed Ujaama concept and principles. We now have politicians that are involved in State Capture in South Africa for example, where policymakers took part in business dealings instead of having allowed business leaders to emulate what the Rupert family did in transforming the economic development conditions in South Africa. They (Rupert family) have created more employment opportunities for the country more than those black business leaders awarded tenders by government. How many tender entrepreneurs are listed in the The JSE Group for example and are contributing to the development of sports, arts and culture today in Paris 2024 Olympics Games? How many African business leaders have adopted what the late Dr Sam Motsuenyane, founder of African Bank, and a pioneer of black economic empowerment , that has managed to register African Bank during apartheid years? How many tender entrepreneurs have copied the late Dr. Richard Maponya and have well established businesses that we can call black monopoly capital of today in South Africa?

At times, we need to learn and develop a new way of doing things for Africa if want the progressive Africa we expect in 2030. Political leaders will not become business leaders we would want to see if we want a progressive economical developed Africa in 2030. We need more of Motsepes, Ruperts, Strive Masiyiwa, Mohammed Al Amoudi, and Dangotes if we really want to achieve the Agenda 2063 goals in our lifetime. Politicians must stop acting as business leaders and focus on what they're entrusted to do, policymaking. The angers of our past should not determine how our future endeavours should look like. As a business person, the political leaders have to undergo some group counseling sessions that is aimed at rebuilding the Africa we want in 2063. What we're witnessing today is sad to see Africans suffering from a system that should improve the conditions of ordinary citizens and residents. What we just witnessed in Kenya should be a lesson that must not be repeated, politicians needs to ensure that mineral resources benefit local people instead of businesses that come and manip**ate the situation. Big business of Africans needs to come to rescue struggling small business players.

Africa 🌍 offers $193 BILLION renewables opportunity, Study Shows 👌🏿

Sub-Saharan Africa offers a $193 billion opportunity to invest in and transmission by 2031, with returns a multiple of those in European Parliament and the United States of America, according to a new study.

Utility-scale , , storage and transmission projects across a number of United States of Africa countries may yield an internal rate of return of 15% to 21%, significantly above the cost of capital and yields on sovereign , the study compiled by Wood Mackenzie Ltd. showed. Returns in the and are a little more than 5%.

“Africa represents a significantly underserved market,” the researchers wrote in the study that UK government agency MOBILIST and South Africa’s Revego Fund Managers sponsored. “Renewable-energy assets across the region also tend to be at earlier stages of development, offering growth upside.”

Almost 600 million people in the region, or about half the **ation, have no access to electricity. While that provides African governments with an expensive problem to solve, the lack of electricity infrastructure is also an opportunity for new projects to focus on renewable energy.

Of the investment opportunity, national and micro-grids require $66 billion, the researchers said. They expect 11,000 kilometers (6,835 miles) of transmission-line rollouts annually by 2031, compared with 6,355 kilometers last year.

While South African Government 🇿🇦, Nigeria 🇳🇬 and Kenya 🇰🇪 offer the largest solar-power markets, Uganda 🇺🇬 offers the best returns on renewable-energy projects, the study showed. Still, capital costs are higher than those in Europe and the United States Of America. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-07-24/africa-offers-193-billion-renewables-opportunity-study-shows/
