I am honored to have been part of the incredibly talented and dedicated team that brought Our Planet ll to life ! It is surreal having grown up watching Blue Chip documentaries narrated by the legendary Attenborough; to now have his timeless narrative over shots that you crafted. It is shows like this that reveal the beauty and awe of the natural world and act as catalysts to inspire the next generation to fall in love with wild spaces, places and the species that inhabit them. This is one of the most amazing wildlife spectacles I have had the opportunity to film. On one day we had over two hundred mantas schooling around us! There is no scuba or diving equipment allowed at the location so everything is filmed freediving, which can be challenging when your route back to the surface gets blocked by a long train of Mantas !!! These gentle giants make real connection with you as they glide effortlessly by you eye to eye. Happy world Manta Day ! This awesome image was caught by of this beautiful Manta. We were in the boat rounding South Bimini and I thought I saw a large black trash bag floating in the water …… when we went over to grab the trash out the water we were greeted by this magnificent beast! It always pays to remove trash from our oceans !

We took this photo at 8:29am EST this morning ….. exactly one year to the minute that this little nugget and bundle of joy came into our lives. She already fills so many hearts with love and laughter, it is amazing watch her grow and develop into an fintastic little human bean! Filming Discovery’s Shark Academy was one hell of an epic roller coaster…. We had some amazing, talented, hard working people that put in crazy hours around the clock to bring this show to life. This is not your traditional Sharkweek show but it opens up the world of sharks and life in the field to a whole new vein of viewers that may also fall in love and want to protect these amazing creatures. Big respect goes out to the all the creatives, production support, scientists, talent and water men and women that carved this show into reality …. Not forgetting post and the wizards behind the curtain back at home office! Also massive thanks to Riley Elliot and Double Act for bringing me on to help produce their vision as well as Big Love to the Bimini Sharklab, Bimini Scuba Center and The Islands and the people of The Bahamas without whom this would have not been possible. Happy SHARK WEEK 2021 !!! I have been very lucky to have worked on some of the shows coming out this year…… of which none of it would have been possible without the knowledge and experience of the skilled and dedicated watermen and women that work behind the scenes to make the action that we all know and love happen. There is a massive difference on the quality and quantity of shots we as underwater camera ops can get when we have water ops that truly understand the sharks and their behavior !!!! I am also super thankful to the legendary Doc Gruber for giving me an opportunity to learn about filming these critters many years ago …. Also a massive amount of respect goes out to Jordy Klein, Steve Greenwood, Rob Stewart, Mark Carter and all the other industry creatives that took those initial leaps of faith recommending me for production jobs. Sometimes getting in the water without landing on a shark can be the most challenging part of the day!!! 🦈🦈🦈🦶🦶🦶 It is amazing to observe the social hierarchy of these Oceanic White Tips as they interact with each other out in the deep blue .....

The end of the Great Hammerhead season is always bitter sweet. Sad to see these magnificent Kings and Queens of the Deep migrate from the waters of Bimini as the waters warm and they run the gauntlet where they could fall prey to larger predators but more likely could be caught commercially or for sport. We always look forward as winter approaches each year and the cooler waters bring the return of most of our sharky friends. Unfortunately each year some of the Great Hammerheads that we have come to know and love never make it back to these waters. We hope that they have just chosen to explore different feeding grounds however the sad reality is that they have likely not survived. It certainly is "Better in The Bahamas" especially for Great Hammerhead Sharks.
This year I had the amazing opportunity to explore and film these sharks in different ocean habitats and ecosystems.
Here is one of my favorite shots from my personal stock filmed on RED in a Gates UW housing showing a reveal of a Great Hammerhead on a small patch reef.

When I do not have a camera underwater I like to keep my hands busy !!! It always amazes me what gentle giants these hammerheads can be.... SHARK VS DOLPHIN !!!! Who do you think would win ??? Something you don't see every day ..... A Great Hammerhead and a Bottlenose Dolphin sharing the same space. These two species use similar hunting and feeding grounds and evidence of dolphin crater feeding can be seen where you encounter Great Hammerheads. If you look closely at the skin of Bottlenose dolphins you can see tell tale scars and old battle wounds from clashes with sharks. At this size these two perfect predators probably have a degree off mutual respect for each other however would certainly compete for a fresh snack.

MIND BLOWN!!!! Feel truly blessed to have been able to witness and also capture on a drone this school of Endangered BLUEFIN TUNA cruising super shallow reefs off the coast of Bimini in The Bahamas. Back in Hemingway's day reports historical reports stated there were areas near Bimini that the Tuna ran so thick you could have run across their backs! Happy to see that some are still managing to run the gauntlet migrating massive distances ever year returning from as far as Nova Scotia to pass through the waters of the Bahamas. These power houses easily outran the boat and eventually the drone..... Here is a quick 1 minute teaser of some of the footage from the experience.

Some days I like to pretend to be a Hammerhead shark !!!! What shark would you be and why ??? Despite the amazing ability to camouflage and bury themselves in the sand; stingrays are no match for the Great Hammerheads with their giant hammer shaped heads, ampullae and keen sense of smell....
