Hi Fungi Fans,

We are excited to welcome Sarah Siegal to the 2025 MAINE FUNGI FEST, taking place at Saint Joseph's College (on the shores of Sebago Lake) from Friday, May 30th through Sunday, June 1st.

She will be offering a workshop on: All Parts Welcome: Utilizing IFS Pre-Journey

This workshop will explore methods for utilizing the Internal Family Systems Model (IFS) before a psychedelic/ plant medicine session to foster a greater degree of trust with the medicine, address ambivalence or fear, and potentially influence more positive outcomes.

Created by Dr. Richard Schwartz, IFS is a non-pathologizing approach to healing that sees the mind as being comprised of many sub personalities called “Parts”. In addition to Parts, IFS believes that we have a fundamental essence called “Self-Energy” that cannot be harmed by anything we experience in this life, contains great wisdom, and knows how to heal. It offers a profoundly gentle and effective way of restoring harmony to one’s inner world

Sarah Siegel is an Ordained Interfaith/ Interspiritual Minister; Certified Holistic Coach and a Level 2 trained IFS Practitioner (trained through the IFS Institute). Additionally, she is trained in Ketamine Assisted Therapy through Polaris Insight Center.

She is also a Facilitator and a Spiritual Care Provider through Bassé Root Church, a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to offering a sanctuary for the exploration and practice of the Missoko Bwiti tradition in the United States.

Sarah has a private practice in Portland, Maine where she supports people healing from trauma, chaotic/problematic substance use, eating disorders, struggles with mental imbalances, challenging spiritual experiences and more.

Returning to the States as a medically discharged veteran with physical and mental injuries, she was led to an ayahuasca ceremony as an alternative to the VA's myriad medications. This was the first step in her healing journey.

She has participated in many ceremonies and organized them and helped others find a healing path through ayahuasca, psilocybin, kambo, and ketamine. She has taught the mind, body, and spirit approach through breathwork, daily meditation practices, a clean diet, and sound/forest bathing.

For the past four years, she has lived in the woods of Maine, continuing her daily practices while advocating through the Veterans Psychedelic Network, and helping others, especially veterans, find safe, legal access to plant-based medications and alternative therapies.

Hi Fungi Fans,

We are excited to welcome back Jim Doble and Friends to the 2025 MAINE FUNGI FEST, taking place at Saint Joseph's College (on the shores of Sebago Lake) from Friday, May 30th through Sunday, June 1st. Jim will be offering sound baths all weekend (including our closing ceremony), and he will be joined by Forest Weston and Maleinie Gargurevich.

Around 25 years ago Jim Doble inadvertently experienced a sound event while playing on his glass and slate “xylophones” which, profoundly shifted something in his brain. That began his passionate research into how sound and vibration can be used to shift energy in people to help promote not only healing, but expanding our physical, psychological, and ethereal selves to our full potential.

Forest Weston is a retired Forester who began playing didgeridoo in 2009. He was instantly drawn to the instrument after hearing one played for the first time, being pulled in by the ancient tones and rhythms. The fact that the didgeridoo is likely to be the first wind instrument played by humans drew him even deeper into the low frequency, haunting drones that makes it so unique. Weston builds most of the instruments he plays from traditional materials as well as modern composites.

Maleine Gargurevich began adding sound into her practice in 2013. It started when she had a client on the table and was guided by the Angels to chant particular mantras to stabilize her organs. Although initially it was uncomfortable to use her voice, she hasn’t stopped since.

Hi Fungi Fans,

We are excited to welcome back Dana Sawyer, to the 2025 MAINE FUNGI FEST, taking place at Saint Joseph's College (on the shores of Sebago Lake) from Friday, May 30th through Sunday, June 1st. He will be offering both a workshop and a presentation:

“UPDATING THE 1960S’ WAVE OF PSYCHEDELIC SPIRITUALITY”
In this lively presentation, Sawyer discusses what we know now that we didn’t know in the 1960s, and, provocatively, what from that earlier wave of enthusiasm for psychedelics as tools for spiritual growth is worth reclaiming.

(Workshop) “OPENING INTO THE OMINOUS, LUMINOUS, VOLUMINOUS NUMINOUS.”

In this interactive workshop, Sawyer offers thoughts and short adventures related to the unitive mystical experience often triggered by psychedelics. What do these experiences mean and how can we best integrate them into everyday life?

Dana Sawyer is professor emeritus of philosophy and world religions at the Maine College of Art and Design and author of biographies of both Aldous Huxley and Huston Smith. His primary expertise is in Hinduism and Buddhism but for more than twenty years, his work has focused on comparative mysticism, theories of the “perennial philosophy,” and the spiritual value of psychedelic experiences. His essays have been published by the University of California at Berkeley, the State University of New York, the University of Muenster, Germany, and have appeared in such popular journals as Parabola, Yoga Journal and Tricycle: the Buddhist Review.

He is the author of Aldous Huxley, A Biography (Crossroad, 2002), focusing on Huxley's philosophical development, and most recently The Perennial Philosophy Reloaded (Monkfish, 2024). He lives for six months each year in an off-the-grid cabin in Maine with his artist wife, Stephani.

Hi Fungi Fans,

We are excited to welcome artist Roberta Trentin, to the 2025 MAINE FUNGI FEST, taking place at Saint Joseph's College (on the shores of Sebago Lake) from Friday, May 30th through Sunday, June 1st.

She will be offering a workshop called, “PAPERMAKING WITH MUSHROOMS”. Here’s a brief description:

Mushrooms are an excellent alternative source for paper making. The workshop will start with a brief introduction to mushroom paper making and how it differs from cellulose-based paper. We will then learn different paper-making techniques and assemblages and dive into making postcard-size sheets. All materials included.

Roberta Trentin is a multidisciplinary artist who works in collaboration with the materials and the unknown outcomes. Her work explores overlooked stories of fungi and plants in the more-than-human world. A background in science and a love of the earth result in an interweaving of macro/micro-observations and deeply personal stories. Roberta has been experimenting with mushroom paper and uses it to create sculptural assemblages that speak about life flows and entanglement. Roberta splits her time between the forests of the Hudson Valley and Brooklyn.

C.J. will be offering his workshop: Micro Dosing 101 on both Saturday and Sunday. Here's a quick blurb:

Evidence has shown that mushrooms have unique healing properties and have been used for thousands of years. More recently we have seen numerous news reports and media coverage that describes the unique healing properties of psychedelic mushrooms, but what does it all mean?

Whether it is large doses or mushrooms, also known as “macrodoses” or the tiny, sub perceptual doses also known as “microdoses”, in this workshop we will discuss what this means, some of the research, and answer questions about the magic of magic mushrooms.

C.J. Spotswood, PMHNP aka “The EntheoNurse”, is a psychiatric nurse practitioner, psychedelic educator, and author of “The Microdosing Guidebook”.

01/04/2025

We are excited about our "Plant Based Healing" keynote at the 2025 MAINE FUNGI FEST, BWITI TRADITION – GOING BACK TO THE BEGINNING, which will be delivered by Ryan Rich. Ryan is a dedicated traditional Bwiti iboga facilitator and founder of Root Healing, Bassé Root, and Ghenigho.

Here's a description of the presentation:

In today’s world, we are becoming so disconnected from reality, each other, and nature too. We spend most of our time in and communicate through a virtual world. Existing in this state of multifarious dysconnectivity is having a huge impact on our mental health, our spiritual health, and also the environment.

This talk draws on Bwiti teachings to pose the question — what if the solution has been here all along? What if we just have to go back to the beginning to find the truth that will set us free?

The Bwiti tradition of Gabon, rooted in the ancestral knowledge of the Babongo people, offers a profound connection to nature's wisdom. The Babongo are humanity's oldest ancestors, and their spiritual tradition is probably one the first ever practiced. This simple but profound tradition is the perfect antidote to our modern confusion.

While Western thought often emphasizes separation from and manipulation of the natural world, the Bwiti tradition holds a continuous and unbroken relationship with it. This talk will revive the profound truths that we never should have forgotten, offering a Bwiti-derived path back to wholeness and a deeper understanding of our place within the natural world.

Please join us at the 2025 Maine Fungi Fest, which will take place on the shore of Sebago Lake, at Saint Joseph's College, from Friday, May 30th through Sunday, June 1st.
