I am not from your area but I really don't know how my great grandparents came over from England in the mid-1800s... whether through the great lakes or on the east coast... I am more or less just getting started with my geneology... so here is the name I am looking for:
Twaites
Thwaites
The name was spelled: Thwaites in England, and I am not sure if it could be spelled any other ways but I have seen names that I have wondered about:
Twaite, Twait, Wait

Lewis (or Louis) Rohde (or Rody, rodie, etc.) and wife Ingeborg. Census records for 1910 showed them listed in Black Brook, Polk county but they may have lived elsewhere when they arrived from Norway in 1897. Wife (my grandmother) Ingeborg had used "Gerald" as father's name, but not sure if that was maiden name or not, or if correct spelling. Lewis Rohde died in July 1917 from lightning near Black Brook, Wisc. but I couldnt find any record of death on Ancestry site. Ingeborg and children later moved to Ludington, Mich.

Lola, I came across names Tweite and Tveite on a Norwegian heritage site so they could also have come from Norway, by ship from there or England to New York and then canals and lakes to destination.

I am researching the following names: Perry, Damkoehler, Gillespie, and Manchesky. I think the Manchesky line is from Southern Door County or Northern Kewaunee (near Forestville) I do have quite a bit of information on the Perrys and the Damkoehlers. Four Perrys came to the Forestville area from Ireland. Matthew Sam and Richard stayed, but John apparently departed for California and we are unable to find any trace of him after that.

Finally found out Lewis Rohde was Lars Torkelssen Rodde in Norway, and Ingeborg was actually Inger Gjerald (think her mother and maybe grandmother were Ingeborgs), and they may have emigrated to U.S. later than info I had been told. Found farms they lived in and all the families and names residing there also.

Hi Nikkie and all! My maternal Grandmother was a Bassford - the George Bassford family. He was the first inland settler of Sevastopol. I have a cute story: In '01, I married a Fellner boy. Well... YEARS ago... the Fellners bought land from the Bassfords and here, years and years later, a Bassford gal (me) married a Fellner boy (Mike). Isn't THAT a cute Door County story?!?!?! I love it! ;) I LOVE having such good Door County ties... my little Fellner kids especially have a cute story ~with this story that I shared. =)
Thanks for starting this group. =)
