Winter is just around the bend. This weekend will be Autum's last hooray. The temperatures are dropping.

Seasonal checklist: Gather more twigs and pines cones for fire tinder, collect sticks for kindling and fuel wood. Clean the gutters and roof. Insulate the barn as needed using green house plastic and scrap wood. Toss the compost pile...and hopefully give Billy a good bath.

We are almost midway through the holiday season and the the dormancy of winter is approaching.

We had a great time with family building an outdoor fire pit, picking 'fairy stones' from the local Park, cooking burgers on the grill, and enjoyed a peaceful evening of bliss under the stars.

Fortunately we are ok and we hope our viewers are as well. After the tragedy that followed hurricane Helene, we just want to remind everyone looking to buy rural property in Appalachia to do the so called; "due diligence" and go to the County's GIS maps to verify the property you are looking at buying is not in a flood zone! Low laying valleys will almost always get flooded, and even more so now, with more intensity and frequency, as our climate continues to change. Stay safe everyone, and prayers for those who were personally affected by this tragic event.

The last few days we have been struck with overwhelming sadness seeing the devesation Helene caused across the the southern states. We used to live in Florida and just outside Asheville. We have driven I40 many times into Knoxville as well as the side roads through the mountains. The beauty, wonder and awe of that region always made our hearts skip a beat as we pondered the greatness of our world. Most people who live in the mountains chose to live simple lives. Our hearts are broken for those who lost their loved ones. Words cannot express these feelings accurately. We send our prayers to all affected.

Our hearts are also saddened by the global news of wars and famine.

If you haven't found a reason to prepare, now is that time. One never knows what disaster awaits. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Better to be prepared than naught. Think about what you would need should you be faced with these issues. How long could you last without access to anything or anyone? 1 week, 3 days?

This is Princess Reya. She likes to go on long walks in the woods, dirt baths, and lounging in the shade.

Princess Reya is on a time-out. She escaped twice on Friday, so Mo spent ALL day Saturday securing the fence AGAIN! She has figured out that if she puts all her weight on the top, the fence will cave under pressure, and she can then jump over. Thankfully, she comes back when we use our recall command.
