The Bahia Honda Rail Bridge in 1920!

The Bahia Honda Rail Bridge is a derelict railroad bridge in the lower Florida Keys connecting Bahia Honda Key with Spanish Harbor Key. It was originally part of the Overseas Railway, but the state of Florida purchased it from the Florida East Coast Railway after the 1935 Labor Day Hurricane and converted it for automobile use as part of the Overseas Highway in 1938. The bridge was closed in 1972.

Have ideas on improving recreational fisheries management in the Gulf of Mexico? Chime in tonight (Monday, Nov. 18) during a 6-9 p.m. virtual Recreational Initiative Public Engagement Session hosted by the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council. The Gulf Council seems to be making an honest effort to engage with recreational anglers to cooperatively iron out bumps in season-planning, limits and other measures for snappers, groupers, kingfish and other federal waters species. (Don’t forget those greater amberjacks are closed in the Gulf Nov. 1-Dec. 31). Register for the webinar here. Think big, too: If your vision is for Gulf fishery that allocates more annual catch to recreational anglers—instead of the big commercial syndicates that dominate red snapper, for instance—speak up!
