We love getting our students involved in projects!

A few years back, I was teaching a student the Queen song, "Bohemian Rhapsody," when I suggested she might like the band JELLYFISH and a song called "Joining a fan club."

JELLYFISH was a California-based group with fantastic songwriting and musicianship. While only a band for a few years in the early 1990's, they managed a couple of beautiful records. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jellyfish_(band)

While working on our first song, my next music student would hear us and the song, and she asked if she could also learn the song. So we eventually began a group music class and added yet another student/teacher.

We started playing a few live pieces at Open Mic Nights, working our way up to playing festivals like MUSIKFEST and the Sherman Theater.

The five of us named our band "DECADES" (The age of each member being about ten years apart, ranging from 16 up.) The band consisted of Jon Sampson on Drums, Jack Heroux on Keyboards and Vocals, Leeann Lemperle on Bass and Vocals, Joe Stone on Electric Guitar and Vocals, and myself on Acoustic Guitar and Vocals.

We all enjoyed singing the four-part harmonies that graced some of JELLYFISH's well-constructed melodies. Working on the vocal arrangements was a fun challenge for everyone involved.

This live iPhone video begins halfway through the song "Joining a Fan Club," where we added the A ca****la section from "The King is half undressed.," performed as an opening act on Feb. 11, 2018, at the Sherman Theater.

DECADES recorded a few songs here at New Horizon Music Studios. I was so happy to see my students grow in both a Studio and Live situation.

We added a few other New Horizon Pupils to help with our silly, goofy video, directed by another talented student, Paul Dworakivsky.

It's inspiring to get musicians involved in a project like this. We have done a few since, and I am looking forward to a new one!
