A fitting end to a blessed deer season! We had challenged ourselves to shoot a buck from the ground with our bow come late season and on 4th down, it finally happened.
The buck we called “Max” was 6.5 years old to the best of our knowledge and this was the first time I had laid eyes on him in 3 years, David had almost shot him twice in October but it just wasn’t meant to be.
His late season range had shifted him to another block of timber and he was feeding in a couple of different corn fields according to our Spartan cameras. Our hope was on every east wind, we’d hunt him in the corn field he had been making most of his appearances, we just needed a little colder weather to get a 6.5 yr old buck out before dark.
We had a big storm coming in mid week and the couple of days leading up to it weren’t looking too promising weather wise, and honestly we found ourselves somewhat just going through the motions waiting on that front. However, much to our surprise, he was the first buck in the field at 5pm.
Kole and I watched him feed for about 15 minutes and once he turned broadside at 30 yards, we sent a Swhacker through the back of his lungs. He was slightly quartering so we gave him overnight and the next morning he was right where we had hoped.
We knew he was extremely massive from all the trail cam pics and he had broken off about 8-10” of brow tines but still stretched the tape to 167”. God bless the whitetail deer and everything it provides!

: What better way to cap off an already incredible season, but to add the 🍒 on top by going out with a 💥 and making it his best season to date.

BIG congrats 🍾 and shoutout to Matt, who harvested one of his best 🦌 to date in Iowa with his .

Matt and his cameraman, Nathan left NC and drove 17 hours straight through the night to ensure they arrived in time to hunt the first afternoon with the forecast calling for cold 🥶 temps and snow ❄️.

The first afternoon, however, they weren’t able to hunt the spot they had initially intended due to a SE wind and decided to head to a cut corn 🌽 field instead. They ended up seeing over 30 deer and several really nice bucks, but not one of his hit listers.

The next afternoon they were able to head to the spot they had initially intended with a NW wind and knew it would be magical. They had been getting tons of pics of several big shooters in the standing beans and general area.

After seeing several does and small bucks, this joker strolled out of bedding to the beans early and Matt was able to connect with his NitroFire at 175 yards.

It was the hunt of a lifetime and truly the season of a lifetime. Matt finished his whitetail season having tagged out in Kansas, North Carolina, Iowa and helping his son Zayden harvest a deer. He also harvested his first black bear this season in North Carolina. 🎊

Congratulations to of !

: There’s no place like the Cactus Jack Ranch! The amount of mature deer they have is unrivaled due to an incredible management program that you would have to see to believe.
We saw tons of deer, passed some hammers that weren’t quite old enough looking for something 8.5 yrs old or older.
“Ace” was one of our main targets. He was 8.5 and his skittish personality had made it almost impossible to get a shot with my Mathews. He would come into the field, only to sense something wasn’t right or face us the entire time while he ate which was usually just a minute or two. However, on the last afternoon, he tried to pull that slip again but this time we had that CVA 6.5 Bleedmore! He couldn’t outrun the lead and he’s headed home with us! We had an absolute blast and can’t thank the great folks enough for sharing their little piece of Texas heaven with us!

: Matt punched his 2nd and final NC tag on one of his top hit listers with his 350 legend.

He hadn’t had a picture of this deer on his for over a month, but with a cold 🥶 high pressure day after a rain front, he knew the deer would be on their feet.

This joker appeared out of nowhere with several does early and finally worked his way close enough to the for Matt to capitalize.

What a way to cap off an incredible season in NC. 🤙🏽

Congratulations to Gregg Ritz of .

The story of Rover, a 7.5 year old deer who got his name from being notorious for roaming far distances on and off the property, spans several years, having images of him at just two years old.

Fast forward 5 1/2 years later and countless hours of land management and habitat improvement and nearly 3 months into my season with several encounters, when it finally all came together.

A cold front was moving in, in conjunction with a high pressure system that I felt would bring deer out into the field prior to dark. As the night was waning, it looked like Rover was not going to show, but with 10 minutes remaining of legal shooting light, Rover emerged from the timber and slowly fed his way to 35 yards in front of the blind.

With a heart shot, Rover made it just inside the wood line before expiring, ending the chapter of one of the most storied deer on the property.

Thank you, old friend. It won’t be same going afield without you in it.

DOUBLE Congratulations to of in Kansas!

: 2 bucks in 2 days in Kansas! This time of year is one our favorite times to be in Kansas, they are hitting the feed hard but also after the does still cycling in and out! It can be both fun and chaotic! This hunt was the latter as this guy was chasing a doe along with 4 other bucks! Thank goodness the doe ran right to us and he was right behind her in the Kansas sunset!
He’s beat up just like almost every other buck right now in western Kansas and we are thankful to get him!
Good luck to everyone still chasing these whitetails and let’s keep the hot streak rolling!

This has been quite the season and this hunt marked the last of it for me
I’ve got to say, I was born and raised where “gun season” was THE season. And although I’ve spent the majority of my last 20 years a die hard bow hunter…this years rifle hunts have allowed me to fall back in love with it. “Deer Camp” just has a different feel during this time of year.
