It’s Giving Tuesday (please like and share to help spread the word): The Steelville Trail of Tears Remembrance Committee is raising $200,000 to place a permanent monument in the Community Park, where the Henry E. Davis Homestead Trail of Tears site was located. Renowned Cherokee and Pawnee artist Daniel HorseChief has created the conceptual design for a bronze sculpture titled “The Trail.” The sculpture depicts a falcon rising from tears and flames like an ascending phoenix, with figures representing the diversity of human experiences along the Trail of Tears. All donations will go directly to the production and installation of the planned monument. Make your donation at: https://runsignup.com/Race/Donate/MO/Steelville/TrailofTearsRideWalk

A cleanup day for the Steelville Community Park is scheduled for Saturday, November 16, starting at 10 a.m. City officials are asking for people to show up with shovels, rakes, and wheel barrels. No machinery will be allowed in the park at this time due to the ground still being soft. Debris from around the park will be piled up in sections, so that it can be loaded up and taken away. The public has also been advised to stay clear of the walking bridge as it is not useable at this time.
