Jason Van D**e is set to be released from prison today.

17-year-old Laquan McDonald had 24 bullet holes from 16 shots fired by ex Chicago police officer Jason Van D**e. Van D**e was sentenced to a paltry 81-months in prison in 2018. Today, he will be released after only spending 3 years, 3 months and 9 days in prison.

The 81-month sentence was a travesty of justice to begin with. Van D**e was convicted of second-degree murder and 16 counts of aggravated battery with a firearm for the October 2014 shooting. The special prosecutor asked Judge Vincent Gaughan to sentence Van D**e to 18 - 20 years, which was not enough.

Van D**e is being released early for “good behavior.”

A miscarriage of justice, indeed. Van D**e heinously murdered a Black teen, shooting Laquan even as he lay on the ground. Three years of “good behavior” does not justify the release of a cold-blooded murderer.

Will Black victims of state-sanctioned murder ever receive justice?
