TWO TERRIBLE ACCIDENTS ROCK FIRST RESPONDERS IN IREDELL COUNTY:

I made a post Christmas Eve about the grief firefighters in Western, NY felt after the tragic shooting death of two firefighters on Christmas Eve in West Webster. I mentioned how much the fire service is a brother and sisterhood. That brother and sisterhood doesn't stop at the firehouse, it's shared across all emergency services.

Sadly today, first responders in Iredell County are dealing with the same grief after two first responders' children were killed in accidents involving off-road vehicles.

Yesterday, Iredell County Sheriff's Deputy Lt. Amy Dyson lost her son in a horrible dirt bike accident. Firefighters and paramedics frantically but professionally did everything they could to save the life of Amy's son. Sadly he passed away at the hospital.

To everyone's horror, another ATV accident happened this morning. This time tragedy struck the Troutman Fire Department. Details of this accident are still emerging but we can sadly report a 15-year-old child lost his life. The member involved is a valued person of the department and community.

The brotherhood and Sisterhood are out in full force today in Iredell County. The Iredell County Sheriff's Auxiliary is working out details for Amy's son. The City of Statesville Fire Department, Shepherds Fire Department, and the Conover Fire Department from Catawba County are providing fill-in at the Troutman Fire Stations.

I would like to give my sincere condolences to both families affected by these two terrible accidents. As a father of two boys, 14 and 9, I can't imagine your grief. Please know your brothers and sisters are here for you and will support anything you need.

Sincerely,

Dan

Looking forward to seeing the impact of the new Statesville community garden behind Iredell Christian Ministries. Thank you, JANCO and Dr. Benton and Carolina Farm Trust for making this happen.

After leaving her job as a forensic anthropologist, Christina wanted to play with dirt but in a different way. She turned her own farming into a business model to convert unusable lots....
