RED RIVER GORGE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION ACCEPTING DONATIONS FOR FLOOD RELIEF

RED RIVER GORGE, KY, Feb. 20, 2025 — The Red River Gorge Community Foundation (RRGCF) https://bit.ly/RedRiverGorgeCF, an affiliate of the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky, is now accepting donations for emergency flood relief efforts in Estill, Lee, Menifee, Powell, and Wolfe counties. In the aftermath of the devastating Feb. 2025 flood, the Red River Gorge community is in desperate need of relief. All donations made to RRGCF between Feb. 20 - Apr. 30 will be designated for immediate needs for flood recovery efforts.

"In the aftermath of this devastating flood, the need for immediate assistance is critical,” says Joe Crawford, Red River Gorge Community Foundation Chair. “We urge everyone to support the recovery efforts by donating to the Red River Gorge Community Foundation. Your generous donation to RRGCF will be flexible dollars used to aid those affected by the disaster in our Red River Gorge counties. By contributing to the foundation, you’re helping to ensure that our community can rebuild and heal together. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a significant impact. Let’s come together and support those who need it most during this challenging time."

The impact of the flood on Appalachian Kentucky is heartbreaking. Fourteen deaths have now been reported. Small businesses, farms, homes, downtowns, and more have sustained significant damage. RRGCF is committed to rebuilding and restoring the Red River Gorge community, but the community foundation relies on support from donors. Donations made to RRGCF will be maximized to provide the best possible support for local flood victims.

The Red River Gorge Community Foundation is an affiliate of the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky. Their goal is to establish a permanent community endowment fund that will support local philanthropic goals in Estill, Lee, Menifee, Powell, and Wolfe counties both now and years into the future.

PROJECTED RIVER CREST AS OF TODAY. Numbers will change depending on the path of the storms.

Red River is projected to crest Monday at 22.5 ft, numbers will be updated again this time tomorrow and throughout the storm.

First look at projected river crests. The numbers will change. Stay weather aware. Prepare now, especially if you live in a flood-prone area. Flash flooding is possible anywhere in the county but some areas that have had issues in the past need to pay attention. Unfortunately the heaviest rain is forecast to be after dark on Saturday.
The rain should move out around day break on Sunday as temperatures plummet into the 20s. Light snow will be possible Sunday but no major impact is expected from the snow.
Have several ways to get alerts. Have a go bag with things you might need if you have to evacuate. Have safe back heat and/or plenty of blankets. Charge up all of your backup power units for cell phones and devices you use. If needed, run generators in accordance to manufacturer guidance.
Stay weather aware. Have weather radios, alert apps, CodeRed, etc.. turned on and turned up incase they are needed.
We will post information as we get it. Please prepare ahead of time!

If you were impacted by the flood in 2021 you need to begin preparations now.
Heavy rain will move into our area Saturday and Sunday. We could have Flash Flooding with the River Flooding.
