Stamford Studios

Stamford Studios Stamford Media Center & Productions, LLC Approximately 70% of SMC’s live audiences travel from out-of-state to visit and spend money in Connecticut.

NBCUniversal’s (NBCU) Stamford Media Center (SMC), located in the heart of downtown Stamford, Connecticut, is home to three of NBCU’s highly-rated daytime talk shows – “Maury,” “The Jerry Springer Show” and “The Steve Wilkos Show” . NBCUniversal relocated its three shows to Connecticut in April of 2009 as a direct result of the state’s film, television and digital media tax credit program. As part

of Connecticut’s “Hollywood East” business community, which includes NBC Sports, NBC Olympics, ESPN and Blue Sky Studios, SMC has established itself as a job creator and revenue generator in the state, employing approximately 350 people, and attracting an average of 53,000 people to downtown Stamford during each season of production. In concert with Governor Malloy’s efforts to encourage young, talented professionals to pursue career opportunities in Connecticut, SMC often recruits recent graduates to join its experienced production team. In addition to SMC’s economic impact, SMC employees and the hosts of its three shows – Maury Povich, Steve Wilkos, and Jerry Springer – have become actively involved with local businesses and charitable organizations in Connecticut and in the Stamford community.

Our Story

Producers from New York and Los Angeles are discovering the advantages and convenience of producing in Fairfield County and the Greater Stamford area. In addition to NBCUniversal’s nationally syndicated hits Maury, Jerry, and Steve, television projects such as The Big C, Are We There Yet?, and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire as well as television groups like NBC Sports have all made the move in recent years, producing in studio space and locations throughout Southeastern Connecticut.

A strong, established workforce combined with a superior transportation network has facilitated an easy transition. The city of Stamford, home to many such projects, is conveniently located just 30 miles from Manhattan, on the main branch of the New Haven Line on the Metro-North Railroad.

The Office of Film, Television and Digital Media is a supportive partner with a goal of enhancing Connecticut’s industry presence. The film office is the statewide contact and production liaison for all entities wishing to work within the state as well as the administrators of the tax credit programs cultivated to increase industry development.
