The 2500-year-old Silver and Gold Getic Horse Harness Treasure
Another important series of silver treasures from the Geto-Dacians was discovered in Craiova, Romania.
The ornaments were decorated by hammering, printing or punching and most frequently portraying the heads of horses, stags, griffins and bulls. Basically, the items were crafted to represent totems of some communities, either religious/primitive science or military. Among the exhibited pieces, you can notice bullheads and swastika-like symbols, documented as solar symbols in several ancient societies. Finally, the horse was known as the steed of Gods and Kings when used in creating apotropaic objects. In mythology, the Hippoi Athanatoi were the immortal horses that pulled the chariot of the hyperborean Apollo and many other Gods.

The impression of a Roman toddler"s foot has been preserved in a red clay tile dating back 2,000 years. This remarkable artifact was unearthed in Vasio Vocontiorum, known today as Vaison-la-Romaine in France.
Initially, I imagined the toddler running and accidentally stepping on the wet clay tile as it was drying. However, upon closer examination, it seems more likely that the toddler was being held up, explaining why the front of the imprint is much deeper than the heel.
Looking at images like this brings me a profound sense of connection to people who lived in the distant past. I experienced a similar feeling when I discovered that Romans used to create tombs for their dogs, complete with heartfelt epitaphs like "I am in tears, while carrying you to your final resting place, as much as I rejoiced when bringing you home with my own hands 15 years ago." Not to mention the charming graffiti found on the walls of Herculaneum and Pompeii.

🔸Ancient Greek Coins, exhibit excellent examples of mythological figures. They can add a visual and tactile dimension that can greatly enhance our readings of history. Unlike vases and mosaics, ancient Greek and Roman coins are extraordinary numerous, cover a wide geographical area and are often of exceptional quality.
These ancient coins and their stories transport us back to a time contemporary with the myths. Handling them is an amazing experience begging questions such as: who handled them, where did they travel through the ancient world, what did the coins buy (food, pleasure, political advantage), what do they tell us about history of area or its origin, etc.

🔸At Museo dell"Opera del Duomo in Florence - Italy :
Porta del Paradiso (east doors after restoration) 1425/1452; by
Lorenzo Ghiberti.
Michelangelo referred to these doors as fit to be the "Gates of Paradise". Giorgio Vasari described them a century later as "undeniably perfect in every way and must rank as the finest masterpiece ever created".
Italian renaissace sculptor Lorenzo Ghiberti’s monumental Gates of Paradise are a revered icon within art history. Generations of visitors, artists, and art historians have praised these gilded bronze doors for their realistic portrayal of the human figure and convincing display of receding space. Ghiberti (1378–1455) created the doors as the second of his two commissions for the Florence Baptistery. He began working on the Gates of Paradise in 1425. It took him 27 years to complete—12 years to model and cast the main reliefs and another 15 to chase, gild, and refine them. The doors were finally installed in the Baptistery’s east portal in 1452.
