The City 2.0 Era officially got underway Friday as City SC, featuring the likes of President Diego Gigliani and Lutz Pfannenstiel, officially introduced new head coach Olof Mellberg to the media.

Welcome presser today for St. Louis CITY SC's new Head Coach ⚽️

Diego Gigliani:
* Thanks to John Hackworth for leading the team at a critical point and happy to have him back in the key role as Technical Director working closely with Lutz and the team
* Mellberg has shown an ability to get the best out of his teams and deliver above expectations
* On lack of MLS experience - certainly helps to have experience in the league but data backs up that it's not necessary, plenty of CITY staff with this experience

Lutz Pfannenstiel:
* High profile teams, such as the Swedish National Team, were also pursuing Mellberg, an honor that he picked CITY
* Knows him to be a role model with a high work ethic and ability to successfully interact with players - got the feeling he was dealing with the right person after visiting Stockholm
* Believes Mellberg can maximize the potential of the squad - knows what the club wants, "will make us a better team" and improve the potential of the whole squad
* Profile as a coach - high intensity runs, work rate against the ball, quick transition moments - "he has played how we want to play"
* Profile as a person - this is also important, down-to-earth personality, work ethic, "not a show pony", can integrate into the community
* Roster not officially finalized but does not foresee any big changes coming

Olof Mellberg:
* Glad to meet everyone, break has felt long, can’t wait to get started, important to start on Monday to maximize preseason training time
* Feels he is tactically flexible on formations - the quality of players tend to decide what's needed on the field but overall playing style won't change
* Areas of improvement he'd like to work on - more quality on the ball, doesn't need a higher possession rate necessarily but want to win the ball and maintain control on the ball in fast attacks, "be vertical, looking for the goal always", also work on a proper approach to perform better in away games
* St. Louis soccer - didn’t know as much about STL soccer before, seems amazing since he has been here, STL has “proper football fans” who seem to truly follow the game
* CITY club - loves the infrastructure, has a great first impression of facility and staff
* Next steps - wants to get to know each player first before make decisions, plans on high intensity and high energy training - talked about how high level teams "don’t take breaks" physically and mentally in games when the ball is not in play
* On coming from European style - MLS has influences from all over the world, not big difference, MLS quality is better now
* Coaching - has spent a lot of time working on his coaching, agrees with Lutz that being a good player doesn't necessarily make you a good coach, but it can help in specific detailed situations on the pitch
* Zlatan Ibrahimović once commented that Mellberg was the "best Swedish defender ever" - he appreciates that compliment, they played together many years and are close friends
